Is bands stopping releasing albums on the CD format now definitely becoming a thing?

PAWS released their fourth record last month, and I can only find it on vinyl or digitally, and Biffy Clyro have today released a soundtrack album to just the same formats.  PAWS aren't a band with large backing and Biffy's is a soundtrack record, but I'm wondering if we're now right on the verge of the death of new CD content...?

Spoiler

The new Sam Cohen album is a delight. Co produced with Dangermouse.

He's the producer on a lot of Kevin Morby albums and this will appeal to fans of him, Richard Swift and Sam Evian.

Some great playing on there and be one of the sleeper hits of 2019 if it gets enough promotion.

It`s obviously good, but what`s the deal with all the guest female vocals? A bit much.

I enjoyed the guest female vocals, but it seems a little rude not to name any of them on the tracks (at least so far as I can see on Spotify).

It is a little too long. And I'm not sure what I think of this new sound, but I imagine it will grow on me.

The National album is good - it is clearly a grower.

16 tracks seems excessive though - they could have cut it to 10 or so.

The female vocals were refreshing and an important part of the narrative. As an accompaniment to a short film that charts a woman's entire life, it would've been weird to feature no women's voices. Every one of them fits perfectly with the band's sound. I agree that they should've gave them a 'feat.' credit, though.

I didn't find it too long. I liked the interludes as they helped with the overall tone.

I was really worried about The National's new album. Wasn't crazy on any of the singles, which is totally different to their last album where I played them to death.

This is a case of really needing to hear the work as a whole though. It's a beautiful album, and I've still barely scraped the surface. I think it'll grow and grow on me.

They always have a new idea/theme that is weird at first but then you find the "normal" national remains underneath. The whole female verses is jarring at first that's for sure, especially Rylan for example, and perhaps overkill in every song.

Going to see Kevin Morby in a couple of weeks, incredibly excited. Also seeing Rolling Blackouts for the second time in a year a few days before the Morby show and the day after the cl final. Hoping for a great week.

The new set for Morby looks unreal too - 8 piece band.

Get there for Sam Cohen too.

Couple of other gems.

Efrim Manuel Menuck & Kevin Doria - are SING SINCK, SING: The Godspeed main man has done it again - another dystopian drone traipse towards the apocalypse.

Pile - Green and Gray: Mind bending rockers for the 90s post-hardcore brigade. It's like Tetris rock this. Very strange timing signatures but it just works.

Been enjoying this:

https://12kmusic.bandcamp.com/album/mount-carmel

Seems every year an ambient pedal steel guitar album is released! Been bountiful the last few years - Chuck Johnson's 'Balsams', Daniel Lanois' 'Goodbye To Language', and now this. Might get the KLF's 'Chill Out' on next...

Also this:

http://stubblemanmusic.com/

Stubbleman, 'Mountains and Plains' More semi-ambient nonsense ;D

Also enjoying:

Vanishing Twin - The Age of Immunology
Aldous Harding - Designer
and absolutely hammering the A.A Bondy album too (thanks Alonso!)

The Cate Le Bon album has some great bits on but also some bits that do my head in.

Not long been back from Cambridge where we saw Big Thief last night.

An absolutely stunning set - 17 tracks from all three albums and an unreleased song called Not that sounded terrific.

They get better each time I see them (this was the 5th time) and are now so tight as a band. They do tender moments and some of the older songs are a lot rockier now too.

The album is beautifully structured and production is ace too. It blew me away in all honesty.

Jai Paul's leaked studio album finally made officially available on streaming sites and for purchase, six years on. He's also released two new tracks.

For those who haven't heard it, give it a go. It's a really special R&B album. He's also penned a letter to fans opening up on the experience of someone stealing his work and releasing it. Really feel for him, but glad he's back making music again.

Japanese Breakfast previously recorded a nice version of Dreams (The Cranberries) and today released a cover of Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears. It's beautiful.

Edit: the other single released this year called Essentially is a gem as well. Album seems very promising!

The Cate Le Bon album has some great bits on but also some bits that do my head in.

For every new thing she releases, without fail, I listen for a minute and then go and enjoy the brilliant Mug Museum album.

Something for the Sarah Records type dwellers and C-86 indie hearts. Not sure how my mate found this since they have like 6-7 listeners on Spotify. They're apparently from rural Florida (!?).

They've got a nice single on bandcamp: https://roperite.bandcamp.com/album/if-you-wanna-see-how-good-things-go-wrong-single

And a very nice album on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/0CJ4sN9MPwdSd49Pjq0Tf7?si=sFQuDuH8TpqnSxwjIoymrw

The new Vampire Weekend album is very good on first listen. Don't think it'll match Modern Vampires Of The City, that one is a masterpiece in my opinion, but will gladly listen to it over and over again. Love that they were working with Danielle Haim and the collaborations are great.

Absolutely loving this album. For you up in the northern hemisphere its definitely going to be sound of summer. For us down in Oz it will keep us warm.

I love the instrumentation and harmonies with the colabs. They're so playful with their lyrics which are often very 'poppy' but then have a dark twist like 'We Belong Together' which I'm sure people would think that's a great wedding song until they hear 'We belong together, baby it don't mean we'll stay together'.

Just sinking my teeth into the new National album which has impressed me once again.
