Disappointing result but very, very encouraging in terms of Kenny's first game.

He picked the strongest team available. He made positive substitutions. He wasn't afraid to use youth. We pressed high up the pitch.

We'll climb the table quickly if we continue to play like today.

But we KNOW THE SCORE. We can't control Webb, or what Utd do, but it sure as hell IS in our power NOT to make off the ground two footed lunges - which by the rules are RIGHTLY a red card challenge regardless of contact with the ball - contact that Gerrard didn't even make.

Gerrard shouldn't be making that challenge in ANY game. A 'perfect' ref would give a red for that EVERY time. Yes, it's bullshit that the Mancs get away with that, and that's a thing worth moaning about, but it was still a red card challenge that should have been given a red and should always be given a red no matter who the ref, what the fixture or whether there's contact or not - the rules are crystal clear about it.

The penalty I'll get pissed off at Ref about because the dive was bloody obvious and it was so early in the game. That Rafael didn't get sent off (though I didn't see it) I'll moan about if it's as bad as you say it is, but I'm not going to start moaning about Gerrard getting sent off for a blatant red card.

By all means attack Webb, by all means moan about the blatant bias and inconsistency, but don't try and tell me that Gerrard's challenge didn't deserve a red, or wasn't a red card challenge, because it really was, all day long and twice on Sundays.

Comparison with the De Jong challenge are nonsense as well because it's a totally different type of challenge - the rules on the lunge Gerrard made are crystal clear, as they are with, for example, elbows to the face. As far as I know there is no such crystal clear directive when it comes to high feet in an aerial challenge - as Skrtel can attest. Again, not that I'm saying De Jong shouldn't have been sent off, but it's a pointless comparison because it's a different type of challenge.

Correct with the Gerrard challenge and there is no comparison with the Rafael challenge, if you leave the ground two footed regardless if you win the ball expect a red

Why not? If they weren't doin it, they wouldn't have been able to get caught on TV doing it.

The rules of the game are that if you lunge into a 'tackle' with both feet off the ground IT'S A RED CARD. End Of. There is no real grey are in that rule, and it's a damn good rule because those kind of 'challenges' put other people's careers at risk, they really do. It really isn't 'insane' to actually apply the rules of the game correctly. The only issue here is that those rules should be applied consistently - that's where Webb failed, and fails, time and time again, NOT in sending Gerrard off.

Although we lost a lot of positives can be taken :
1) We didn't look like the away team we used to be under Roy.
2) The team showed more spirit, desire and determination.
3) Kelly is a fucking brilliant prospect.
4) King Kenny is still a great manager.
5) We pressed the ball and attacked properly instead of the 'Le Hoof' shit.

We did press though, not ultra-aggressively, but we didn't lose the ball and then all run back to our 'shape' at the edge of our own box, only going for a tackle when the opponent actually reaches us. Sure we didn't really press their back 4 aggressively, but we didn't just let them saunter into our own half without putting in any kind of challenge or pressure either, it was a clear difference to our previous tactic this season.

Was a great team performance. Kelly stood out for me, thought he had a great game. Love the way he just muscles players off the ball.
Gerrard's sending off was justified though. But only thought that after seeing a replay from many angles. Was spitting shit at first. When the feck are they going to bring in replays for big decisions btw.? Must be time now. Although Fergie might be shitting it if they do.
As for the peno. Well it wasn't one. Was just wondering if there are any match going fans here could they tell us what the linesman flagged for; peno, goal kick, corner or what? Was hard to see on the box and no one there mentioned it.
Lots of positives and for the first time in a long time I'm really looking forward to the next couple of games. Really think we'll pick up 6 points in the next week now. Well done and hard luck lads.

I didn't see the Rafael challenge - but if it was one footed then you are bang on, there's no comparison. As you say, two feet off the ground in a lunge = red, same way as elbowing someone in the face = red, or a professional foul = red, and rightly so IMO, in all of those cases.
