Hello to all
« on: March 11, 2003, 05:22:51 am »
After a while of writing in the www.redcafe.net forum and listening to quite a few scousers give their opinions, I decided I'd join a scouser forum, to give my unwanted opinions.

I just thought I'd introduce myself, because I know we'll be friends.  ;)

Let's hear some opinions then...

Like... what's the best way to handle fickle band wagon jumping Johnny-come-lately glory hunting fans who know fuck all about your club and traditions?

Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple - Bill Shankly.

How I envy Liverpool ...

Don't act like you didn't want the Worthington cup this year.  Even if it is worthless, what's the big deal?  It's a cup isn't it?

Don't act like united have too much class to win it.  You wanted it this year, and surprise surprise, you didn't get it.

In the Times today there was a survey of Man Utd fans - 90 % of whom thought that your current team was not a patch on the treble winning team in 99. What do you think  (bearing in mind that that was the jammiest ever Euro Cup win since Steaua Bucharest)

I saw a similar poll on the United official web site. I think most supporters' minds are clouded by the success of the treble winning side.

I think the current squad is pretty close to the squad in 99, possibly better. I recently watched a few Champions Leauge games from 1999, including the semi final vs Juventus. I think our European performances this season have been more convincing (and I don't just mean the score line).

So to answer your question, I think the current team is about as good as the 99 team. Many people will tell you that winning a trophy takes a bit of luck - I'm sure with a bit of luck, at the end of the season, people will look at our trophies and decide that this team was as good as - if not better - than the treble winning side.

P.S. Our ticket office is great ... ???

Ah yes! I see where you're going with this one now!

I'll admit that United's ticket office certainly needs a bit of work. Internatinal fans such as me are not accomodated. Since I don't live in England, I'm not completely sure how it all works, but I believe there's a credit system. If you go to a bunch of the games against lower sides, you're more likely to get tickets to the games vs. Arsenal, Liverpool, City, etc. It's to prevent the day tippers getting a ticket over the real supporters. Due to the massive waiting list for tickets for each game, the 'loyal' fans will get a ticket even to the games against lower sides. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

The problem I have with this system, is that a foreigner like me, who goes out of his way to see all of United's matches on TV, is not considered a loyal fan. When I visit England for the sole purpose of seeing a couple of United matches, I have to go to the touts.

I'm sure you're going to tell me how great Liverpool's ticket system is ... So you win! But the bright side for me is that I've heard that United are going to change their ticket system some time in the near future.
