I know it's early in the season, but this game is massive for us.

To go 2 points ahead of both City and Spurs (and just 1 behind United), even at this stage, would be a big boost to the team.

Yes and it would take the pressure off before the Mancs game...
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

fukc this..was getting excited to see raul pacheco or babel..

i can understand not starting raul, but do we need two static midfielders against birmingham? and don't get me wrong, i think lucas is an outstanding player, but needs a more dynamic midfielder alongside of him, right now gerrard or raul. really hope this isn't the team, where is djphal (sp?) i wont believe it until he confirms it (or roy does)...no offense to the other sources.

Agger or Carra to partner Skrtel?

Skrtel and Agger need to learn to play with each other sooner or later.

Yeah but the next 2 games are certainly not the time to test it out.

Agger and Carra start for me.. they can be rock solid.
Gerrard, Meireles in the middle would be nice; but that leaves questions about the hole. No Aqua or Cole, and we sold Benny :/

Reina
Johnson Carra Agger Konchesky
Rodriguez Meireles Lucas Babel
Gerrard Torres

:)

Our centre could well be Gerrard and Raul if Roy persists in playing Cole behind the front man. With those two in the middle we should have plenty of creativity from there. I dont think Roy rates Lucas much and would have sold if the right offer had came in, but for sure we can say  :wave to Lucas in January. Poulsen will come in like the 70-80 minute mark to shore things up.

What about Pach for the hole? Risky I know but we have to find out at some point if the boy has it or not,

Rodriguez Gerrard Merieles Babel
 Pacheco Torres

How about that for attacking, creative football? :)

He has to start tomorrow, I honestly dont see why he would not start. Unless Roy is going to switch Cole to the left then Gerrard and Raul are going to be the teams engine this year and we have to get them playing together as quickly as possible. We've got an opportunity to leap the yids and Manchester City tomorrow and we have to take it. Very few teams are going to get points at St Andrews so it is one of those fixtures that makes a difference at the end of the season and we have to go for it.

Yeah, but it's the awful version.
I know it's the original, but I still really dislike it. Sounds depressing rather than uplifting.

Yeah, I was in FULL voice and found myself out of step with the original version.

If they played the original version at Anfield, everyone would finish about 3 minutes earlier than the recording.

Random fact - apparently Birmingham is the only team Torres has played against more than once in the Premier League and not scored.

Looks like it will be this:

Reina
johnson
Konchesky
Carragher
Skrtel
Lucas
Poulsen
Maxi
Gerrard
Jovanovic
Torres

what was the actual point of sacking rafa?

Let's be honest. throwing Raul into the game from the start would be a wrong move for me. Never played for us. lets see how we get on during the game and then bring him on. give him 30 minutes.

I would go with that except that would mean are central partnership (presuming we stay 4-5-1) will be Poulsen and Lucas and that worries me because we now have a player who can actually link the back to the front. Unless Gerrards will be dropped back then I think we need to play Raul. We need to take advantage of this weekends results and that requires we attack Birmingham.

YNWA @ The proms!
Its an omen!!!
 The season starts here?..
After chopper cole & 10 men against the arse, The macherano massacre & the international wilderness. Am positively/drunkenly, drooling at starting 90 mins with eleven men, including a left back! A chance to assess our situation?.. :o
So I comes in rolling drunk, an someone moots Pacheco in the ole? F it why not. W'eve got a left back!..  may not be The face or pricey enough to be taken seriously by some 'fans' but hes a left back! Get behind the team (we can afford)(try..if you still can)This is hard typing this gone. :P Suffice to dribble GET BEHIND THE TEAM! SHOW SOME RESPECT FOR THE RED SHIRT!...Bitch afterwards.
Did you send any e mails today? Well.. did ya?
If you ask Smalling and Brown if they'd rather play Suarez or Carroll, they'd say Suarez all day long, because he's not going to bully them or run in behind them.

How does Jovanovic continually get a place in the team?? Dont understand why someone else isnt tried.

He was the best thing sliced bread against Arsenal, wasn't he. He had a couple of below par games and now he's shit?

Fuck me, give the lad a chance.

Bollocks to not starting Raul. He's a portuguese international with bags of European Cup experience. Not as if were talking about a 17 year old south American with no experience of european football for fuck sake. I'll be gutted if the line up posted is what Roy puts out. Thats a team going for a draw if he can get it.

Throw Raul in, he'll cope.

Seems as though we'll be seeing Carra Skrtel Lucas Poulsen again though. No idea why Agger's 3rd choice there.

The Guardian seems to think that Meireles is starting... Why is everybody saying the contrary? Is it djphal or something?
Socrates did have a habit of polarising opinion, as does Lucas. Lucas is also good at hemming opponents in and locking them into difficult situations.
