So watched the FA cup replay on ESPN+ y'day. Didn't have the game clock or score bar,  and a single commentator. Wonder if that's because of FA restricting telecast. Also, some opinions out there on whether the FA "banned" all telecasts - local and overseas but if they signed a contract with overseas TV companies, they couldn't do that.

A couple of podcasts I listened to said the FA punished Liverpool by fielding the U23 team and so restricted overseas broadcast rights.

Also NBC Gold is so shit they are not covering any PL games for the next two weekends. It’s a pointless subscription as a cheaper alternative to cable.

NBC is putting all 10 games over the next two weekends on tv.  That's probably why they aren't being shown on Gold.  I do agree, NBC Gold is shit though.

I don't live in Nashville or follow the MLS..have a Liverpool mate who does.

The Mayor is screwing them over. Sign this petition please:

An email from the supporters club:

Well.

We put it all on the table to bring Major League Soccer to Nashville.

Metro agreed to build a new soccer stadium. Commitments were made. A great Community Benefits Agreement was signed with affordable housing and childcare.

When Mayor John Cooper said city dollars were tight … we said okay.

Because, during his campaign, Mayor Cooper said:

“I’m trying to be very clear about this to everybody. We voted for soccer and now soccer has to be a success, … At this point, we have to make what’s there work out. That is going to require a lot of creativity.”

So, we got creative:

We offered to be responsible for the total cost of the stadium. We will cover all stadium costs. ALL OF IT.

We offered to pay an additional $19 Million to Metro for infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the stadium.

We offered to give back $35-million Metro promised to pay in the original deal.

We are providing more than fair value for the 10 acres at the fairgrounds, including affordable housing and child care -- $26 Million worth. (We note that during the campaign, the Mayor made affordable housing a centerpiece issue.)

We told the Mayor we are willing to modify designs for the 10-acre site to accommodate future racing possibilities.

And, if built, this property will generate more than $1.5 million a year in property taxes versus zero dollars today.

On the basis of the city’s commitment, the team has hired over 150 people and millions have been already spent on a completed design. All of that is shrouded in uncertainty and delay.

We even outlined all of this in a letter to the Mayor. You can read that letter here.

He responded…you can read that too. And then we responded back. Read that here.

Now, MAYOR COOPER WON'T MOVE FORWARD.

So, it’s time.

Sign the petition at www.buildthestadium.com

Call 615-862-6000 and tell Mayor Cooper it’s time #buildthestadium.

Or, send the Mayor an email, asking him to Build Our Stadium. Email him here: john.cooper@nashville.gov

And, send the Mayor a tweet…we’ll suggest this:

Hey @JohnCooper4Nash, it’s time to #buildthestadium. Learn more @BuildTheStadium.

You’ll hear more from us. Stay tuned.

Mayor Cooper Reaches Deal with Nashville SC Ownership to Move Forward on Stadium

Demolition to begin immediately while community benefits remain intact

NASHVILLE, TN (February 13, 2020) – Nashville Mayor John Cooper and Nashville Soccer Club lead owner John R. Ingram announced this morning that they have reached agreement on an amendment to the future Soccer Stadium to be built at the Fairgrounds Nashville. Under the terms of the revised deal, the team has agreed to fund 100 percent of stadium construction with private dollars through cash investment, stadium lease payments, and revenues generated at the stadium by attendees of events. The parties have agreed to a statement of principles including open space between the soccer stadium and the historic speedway. Metro has agreed to begin the demolition process immediately.

The revised deal eliminates taxpayer and budget burden for stadium construction while keeping in place the first Community Benefits Agreement in Tennessee.

“We are very happy to be moving forward with the stadium construction,” said John Ingram. “The investment we are making is not just for our soccer team, it is an investment in the future of Nashville and the Fairgrounds.”

“I’m so glad we’ve reached a better deal for Nashville. I’m grateful to Nashville Soccer Holdings and John Ingram for understanding our city’s financial realities and agreeing to pay up to $54 million in additional costs,” said Mayor Cooper. “This deal saves the taxpayers money and provides a better site plan for the Fairgrounds. Today is an exciting step forward for sports in Nashville and I’m ready for the first Nashville SC game on February 29th.”

The revised stadium deal consists of the following elements:

The Team will pay for infrastructure in the immediate vicinity of the stadium estimated to be $19 million.

The team will assume metro’s obligation to pay up to $35 Million toward lease payments.

The Team has agreed to a general statement of principles for parcel 8C in the 10 acre mixed-use development to account for an open plaza that can serve the operational needs of multiple Fairgrounds uses.

Metro has authorized initiation of the demolition contract and will proceed with the demolition process immediately.

Not arsed. Always two sides to every story. Nashville SC’s owner is a multi-billionaire.

Back to the TV!
You cannot call overseas Liverpool supporters glory hunters. We’ve won one trophy this decade. If they’re glory hunters, they’re really bad ones. They’re actually journey hunters. It’s the journey and the story. Something about Liverpool has grabbed them." - Neil Atkinson (May, 2019)

If you have DirecTV - call up cancellations and tell them that you want a customer loyalty promotion - because DirecTV now and YouTube keep trying to make you switch for half the cost. I got 30 today per month - then asked the rep again if there was any way to help me out and he “found” another 10.

So 40/mo off for 1 year. Not bad.

NBC don’t have rights to the CL, so I don’t think so.

There is a chance NBC is about to get those rights - Turner is opting out of their contract with UEFA, including the end of the current season.

Quote
The all-too-brief era of Turner Sports broadcasting the UEFA Champions League appears to be over.

According to Sports Business Journal, Turner has made the decision to opt out of their Champions League deal, which ran through the 2020-21 campaign. Turner reportedly had a clause in their contract to opt out of the deal, and they exercised that opt-out last week.

Notably, this isn’t just for the 2020-21 season – Turner’s opt-out will also affect the remainder of the paused 2019-20 campaign, which still includes the second legs of four Round of 16 matches, the quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final. The quarters and semis have been cut from two legs to one, with those six matches and the final all set to be held at a neutral ground in Portugal in August. However, UEFA could still ask Turner to air the rest of this year’s tournament.

As for the 2020-21 season, and (potentially) the rest of 2019-20, there are several possible suitors. CBS Sports will take over the Champions League starting in the fall of 2021, and could conceivably jump on board a year early. NBC is a natural fit, given their Premier League commitment. ESPN is also a fit through ESPN+, which is cornering the market on international soccer rights. DAZN and Amazon could also be options. Fox, the prior home of the Champions League in the US, has also been mentioned, but given the layoffs that hit the company’s soccer staff this week, I’d think that might be somewhat unlikely.

The first year of Turner’s Champions League coverage did not receive the most positive feedback. Right off the bat, fans were rubbed the wrong way when Turner dumped the entire UEFA Europa League (aside from the final) behind the B/R Live paywall, along with a majority of the group stage matches. They hired Steve Nash (yes, the basketball player) as an analyst, and he did not receive great acclaim for his work (especially when Turner let him and Stu Holden call a Tottenham-Barcelona match). There was less criticism over this season of Turner’s Champions League coverage, but that’s mainly because it was dialed back and less over the top rather than actively better.

All in all, I think soccer broadcasters can learn a lot from what Turner did with the Champions League. Namely, broadcasters shouldn’t paywall more matches than they’re making available on traditional cable, they shouldn’t hire soccer fans as analysts instead of hiring soccer analysts, and they shouldn’t completely ignore one of the two major UEFA club tournaments that they’re paying for. Unfortunately, CBS plans on paywalling most of their Champions League matches next fall on CBS All-Access, ESPN would likely paywall most matches on ESPN+ if they win the 2020-21 rights, NBC would probably do the same with NBC Sports Gold and/or Peacock, and DAZN and Amazon don’t have cable channels to throw matches on. Nothing is perfect, but hopefully they at least learn from Turner’s presentation and don’t make the same mistakes.

Wow.  Didn't see this coming but not disappointed at all.  Turner did a terrible job, probably worse then Fox did, which is saying something.  My bet is that CBS gets the CL rights since it's going to them anyway after next year.

Ugh, I didn't realize that CBS has rights for Champions League next year. Not sure if that's going to be any better than Turner but the bar is set pretty low in any case. Hopefully, NBC goes for it so all Liverpool games can conceivably be part of one streaming package rather than having to shell out unnecessary package for an entire cable TV package.

Attn:

For those with Youtube tv..there is an upcoming price increase. My charge is $49.99 per month.

Starting the end of August it is going up to $64.99 per month due to them adding channels i'll never watch as the company starts to offer eight of ViacomCBS’s channels, which are available today: BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Paramount Network, TV Land, and VH1.

Check in settings for the info as to when your price will increase.

The next best options are Hulu with live tv..$54.99

Fubotv $54.99 ( No espn channels though)

Sling Orange & Blue 50 channel package.. $45

Any others to contemplate?

Fubo is getting ESPN, not sure when, but they've announced it's coming.  I'm guessing that price will go up as well when those channels arrive.  Unfortunately, these services seem to be getting up towards the same price as cable/sat are at.

I just keep calling directv and getting customer loyalty discounts. I have 45/mo off for a year. My package is now 70/month which is fine - and I don’t have be concerned with issues streaming etc.

I had a strong sense that the streaming services would be going up pretty quickly.

FuboTV announced that it signed a multiyear distribution deal with Disney to bring ESPN to its service, filling in the missing link that could make it one of the best over-the-top live TV streaming services available for sports fans. It was already great for watching the Super Bowl and other live sporting events (especially since it has a free trial). But starting this summer, subscribers to FuboTV’s $54.99 standard subscription plan will get ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, ABC, along with access to many other Disney Television Studios channels.

Here’s the complete list of channels being added to the standard plan:

ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3
SEC Network, ACC Network
ABC, ABC News Live
FX, FXX
Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD
Freeform
National Geographic

Nice, thanks for the update 4pool.

Was thinking about cutting the cord yet again (got suckered in when we bought our house last summer) but I’m looking at my tv and internet bill and can’t believe how much I pay for crappy internet and far too many channels I never watch. Think it’s time to switch providers and get with the times.
