1970's / 1980's football
« on: September 7, 2010, 09:23:40 pm »
Anybody remember the red and white ball we used for a season or two at the end of the 70's?

It wasn't like the hexagnol shaped black and white casey, but red and white panels. It was used by other teams as well if I remember.

If anybody knows the name or can post a link to a picture, then that would be sound thanks.  ;)

Dunno, was that the Mitre Delta?

Seem to remember it being used in the League Cup early '80's. Sorry, no links to pictures, and I may be wrong.
Yanks, but new Yanks.  Cautiously optimistic.

Thanks for replies.

I recall it looking similar to the league cup ball on the front of the program, but maybe I just had a cheaper replica when I was a kid.

I'd like to be able to tell you there was a point to this, but just a bit of nostalgia!

Thanks again all. I'm off to ebay to look for a pair of Patrick Keegan now.  :)

My first trip to Wembley that. Remember Bruce making a great save late on and thinking "pity it wont make any difference", a minute later it was 1-1.
We battered them that day, they didn't take it too well and loads of them came round to our end after the match finished.

During the world cup Souness was talking about the Jubulani and how balls are different and affect the way a player plays if he's not used to the ball.

He mentioned at Liverpool our league match ball was the Adidas Tango. In those days each team could choose any brand for their league match ball.
Different balls were used for the FA cup and League Cup(not sure about Europe).

Souness said there was a difference playing with the balls and they would get hold of these different balls like the one above and practice with them beforehand to get a feel of the ball.
