He's a better finisher than Firmino but doesn't (yet) get as involved or press to that level.

I thought Gakpo looked more confident last night and stronger, he seems to know better what is being asked of him and probably feels more part of the team now. All players are different and some take longer to settle.

Probably our best performance away in the league this season. We had trouble with a few of their counters, but defended relatively well. On the Bowen disallowed goal, not sure what Virgil was doing. He approached it way too casually, for whatever reason.

Important matches today, but top 4 is still on. We need help from Spurs or Everton (lol).

I believe we'll finish on 71 points. If we do, that'll be enough for CL qualification, I think.

Love us to pip United for it.

Isn’t that winning every game ?

They would need 13 points from 24. Can’t see them dropping that many

Win out that's what we finish on and I agree we'll likely get CL with that.

If Spurs can beat them tonight, their arses will start twitching big time
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

Spurs, Villa, Brighton and West Ham are their next 4, only Villa at home.

They could lose all 4 or they could win all 4. Ideally we need them to only pick up no more than 6 points from those games whilst we keep in winning. Anything less is a bonus, anything more and it's difficult to catch them as their games get easier then, Chelsea aside on the last day but even that should be three points for them
However if something serious happens to them I will eat my own cock.

I expect one of United or Newcastle to drop off a bit here. No idea if it will be enough, even if we win our remaining matches, but there's a decent chance. There's a reason each team is fighting for top 4 rather than a title, we're all inconsistent.

Firmino.. 9 goals 4 assists and does no look goals.

Gakpo..  6 goals 1 assist.

Firmino was having a good season prior to his injury. But it's pretty useless just mentioning random stats without any context (e.g., Gakpo being new the team, playing a new position etc.). Plus I'm pretty sure Firmino will have still played more minutes.

Firmino only scored 5 last season, in more games than Gakpo has played for us this season.

Great win that...Hammers on a bit of a roll but still desperate for the points...midweek away down the smoke etc etc......flabbergasted that they didn't give a penalty for the Thiago handball...I mean, it definitely wasn't a penalty - but that usually means absolutely fuckall when it comes to LFC's relationship with Stockley Park... We march on. Up The Reds

Posted this in the VAR thread, but just a reminder that Moyes didn't think this one was a penalty...

https://twitter.com/SkySportsPL/status/1625144009772486657?t=a2cgO_WWej2JwHcHNZ6v4g&s=19

The hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I found a quote from him:

On the Soucek handball, he said: "I've not seen it."

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12806175/chelsea-held-by-west-ham-after-penalty-controversy

It looks like West Ham have remedied that by having an iPad in the dugout so they can look at any incidents like that straight away. Wonder why they didn't think of that before.
We have to change from doubter to believer. Now.

yes absolutely, a major reason why I think we have a better chance of catching them than the other United

People cant be arsed with rule changes. has the rule changed?? especially when you were brought up knowing the simple rules of the game inside out. is the handball rule confusing? dont know to be honest. its either you move your arm in a way that obstructs play and make contact or its ball to hand. From 2 yards its almost always ball to hand unless you are blocking space because you put your arm up and in the way. is there anymore to it than that nowadays? (i have seen the diagrams of natural position, and agree with it, the game is nuanced but its all still the same shit surely?)

To be honest I thought it was a pen. It wasn't intentional, but he's definitively blocking the ball with his arm. Sure the Hammers will like they've been had, with the narrow offside earlier as well.

Every time a dodgy penalty against us is not given, I think of that weird start of a season where they'd changed the rules and we seemed to concede about 2-3 pens per match. I remember one where Robbo's foot touched an opposition player's foot after he'd cleared the ball. It cost us lots of points, only for the rules to somehow revert back after a few months without any official changes.

Was that the Welbeck one at Brighton where it took him about 30 seconds after the the contact to dive to the ground?

Yup, thanks for reminding me, I had put that piece of shit refereeing into a deep corner of my memory! One of several decisions that cost us the league.
