He got banned for 18 months for hitting a referee, I'd say that's a bit worse then Suarez' antics, especially considering it was back in the 60s
I hope he was deported for that. Good stuff anyway this thread is better than I thought it would be.

Came on and scored a goal did he not? And not just any goal either a goal that got Ireland out of the group.

I thought he came on and scored in the game you lost (Mexico?). Or did you get through on GD or something?

Red Star winning CL in 91

Well you can surely see who the serbian players are in this... ;)

Savicevic one of my all time favourites, never saw a better player in the flesh. There is a story where one of his coaches said to him that he could be one the best player in the world if he only would give up smoking three packs of ciggies a day and start to show up for some training sessions..

One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

Katalinksi scoring against Spain

Spain got revenge 4 years later winning in the battle of Belgrade against Yugoslavia and qualifying for the Argentina world cup.

Juanito did this to the yugoslavian fans

and someone threw a bottle that impacted on Juanito's head

I remember this game was broadcasted in the afternoon and in my school the teachers let us watch the game.

Milan invincibles:

Quote
AC MILAN 1991/92 SEASON: THE RECORD
Played: 34 Serie A matches
Won: 22
Drew: 12
Lost: 0
Scored: 74 goals
Conceded: 21 goals
Honours that season: Serie A title (Milan were banned from European competition in 1991/92)

There last game of that season they won 8-2.

Because of no floodlights I assume. Happened in Ireland as well I remember we were left watch this game. We had taken a number of scalps during that era and were notoriously hard to beat. The feeling was we would beat Spain because of the draw in Saville and our record at Lansdowne as you can imagine the whole thing came crashing to Earth big time. In the end we both got out of the group, happy days.

Remember that game very well.

Clemente took to Ireland a collection of center backs to deal with Cascarino, Quinn and the rest. He was very much criticised for that but got the result. In the home game he had played the most technical players and Spain drew. He swore never to play again the la Quinta del Buitre players.
He was heavily criticised during his tenure for preferring muscle over technical ability.

Nadal (Rafa Nadal uncle) who was great in the air had a brilliant game. He was in his element.

Well that was a generation of Real Madrid players ( the class of....quinta) coming from their academy that got to the first team in the mid eighties of which the most famous representative was Butragueno. He was nickenamed El Buitre, (the vulture) and the rest were Michel, recently sacked as Sevilla manager, Sanchis, Martin Vazquez and Pardeza.

They all were players of great technical ability but lacking a bit in fighting spirit.

So the translation would be something like " the class of the vulture" ?

Cheers, I know Butragueno of course, he featured heavily in this video about Mexico 86 I had as a kid. Slow motion highlights is defiantly the sort of thing that suits this thread. Well worth a look even if the 80's Scarface soundtrack might put you off.
