Was hoping Johnny Rep would last longer. From what I’ve read up, looks to have had a better career for the national team than the likes of Overmars.

After the Aron Winter chat, I went and watched an early episode of Football Italia. Gullit really was a machine. Modern midfielder and an athlete.

Easy to forget that at 32, in a notoriously defensive Serie A where Milan only scored 34 league goals to win the league title, Gullit got 15 goals in 30 games for Samp - prompting Milan to risk embarrassment by re-signing him after they’d previously thought him done.

Forget Matthaus this guy was the best midfielder in the world circa 1990.
