Topic: Making changes to a pre-owned laptop

Got given a Samsung laptop from a friend who got it in a swap deal for something.
It has Windows 7 and although it's quite old runs smoothly enough.

Apparently, it belonged originally to someone's Dad, the previous owner before my friend gave it to me fell out with his Dad, who was in control of the laptop, passwords etc..

Anyway, I want to make a few changes, but not knowing the password to do this, I'm having no joy.

Anyway around this?

You might need to do a fresh windows install afterwards but you can do a factory reset...

For Windows 7 users, you can easily factory reset Windows 7 without password using "Repair your Computer" option from Advanced Boot Options menu.

1. Reboot your laptop or PC. When the logo comes out on the screen, repetitively press the F8 key untill you enter the Advanced Boot Options menu.

2. Select the Repair your Computer option and press Enter. Then the System Recovery Options screen comes. Later, choose your keyboard's layout, and click on Next.

3. The System Recovery Options window will popup, click System Restore, it will check the data in your Restore Partition and factory reset laptop without password.

So it's got an account you can access and then an admin account on it?

There's no doubt ways to get around that, but if it was a laptop I'd been given it'd be getting wiped before I'd touch it.
