I've just seen the "probable" team on the Times website and I'm really, really disappointed-  :(

LIVERPOOL (possible; 4-4-1-1): J Dudek — A Xavier, S Henchoz, S Hyypia, J Carragher — D Murphy, S Gerrard, D Hamann, J A Riise — V Smicer — E Heskey.

The defence and midfield are as I would've expected, but the inclusion of Vladi over Jari is not good, in my opinion. We need a player who can play telling balls in an around the box and also knows where the goal is. Vladi has patently failed to do either of those things in recent games. He's conceded possession and generally been the weakest link. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he should be sold/shot/castrated or anything. I just think that Jari is the obvious choice for that role and Vladi is not in form. Also we will have to attack more than we have away in Europe before. This means we will be playing on the break less, so Vladi's pace will be less important. Then I think Jari has to play.

But whoever gets the shirt, I hope they do the stuff.

surely this is just the opinion of a journo for the Times, who has as little actual clue as we do.  Don't worry about it, they are often wrong

they're often wrong, but there must be some reason why he's put in smicer for litmanen. it's hardly the obvious choice. often certain journalists will be told about the team, or told that x will probably start instead of y. i don't know how close the times dude - oliver kay? - is to thompson, but if he says smicer i reckon it's 75% likely that jari starts on the bench.

Could it be that this is seen as such an important role tonight that they are going to play 45 minutes each? I can't see either lasting the whole match and if, as generally expected, we are going to play the usual tight game then it might be better to leave Jari till later when we may be wanting to push further forward...

;D ;D  ;D

That's great news I think. But now Jari really has to deliver. As someone just said to me it's time for him to "shit or get off the pot". This is the biggest game of his Anfield career.

Despite my earlier post (I hadn't seen the update  ;) ) I'm delighted for Jari. I hope he takes his chance well (and doesn't get confused and forget which team he's playing for!  ;D )

I wouldn't mind seeing Baros at some point tonight either...

IF, and I stress IF, he does`nt start I expect he will definetly come on as sub, lets hope they give him at LEAST a whole half to do some damage !...
But I fear it is "make or break" for Jari. If he does not get enough oportunity tonite I think it will be one snub too many, it would be hard to swallow and if there was ever a game this season he wants to play in so badly it`s got to be this one!!!!!!
Lets hope the whole team performs tonite instead of pinning ALL our hopes on Jari as this is unfair on him considering his lack of first team action.........
Come on Jari give it your best we`re all behind you tonite !!

This is the kind of situation purpose built for him. We really need to see him play well tonight. If he fails to make an impact I imagine he will not get many more opportunities.

Go Jari. We're all willing you on.

lol, there are actually really nice ones, too...
But I admit the other anomaly: drinking wine instead
of beer!
:)
