I doubt Klopp will change the shape of the team, he seems to want to stick with 4-3-3. He also said that we have no direct replacement (I think he means a wide forward type). Will be interesting to see what he does. Can Woodburn play on the right? will firmino go right, or does sturridge or Origi go right?.

Liverpool's Sadio Mane to have knee surgery - could be out for rest of season.

The "could" is the operative word there for me. If that tweet turns out to be true, it at least doesn't sound like an ACL.

I will be absolutely made up if it's just a 2 month thing. If he is fit for pre-season I will be ecstatic to be honest.

There are only 8 games left - around 6 weeks.

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/sadio-mane-injury-latest-liverpool-12848444

Quote
Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is likely to undergo knee surgery which will end his season.

The Reds will make a final decision in the next 48 hours over whether the Senegal international goes under the knife.

However, club medical staff fear that Liverpool's 13-goal top scorer will require a minor operation to repair damaged meniscus in his left knee. That would rule him out for eight weeks - meaning his season would be over.

Mane, who limped off during the second half of last Saturday's derby victory over Everton, is desperate to avoid an operation as he wants to get back and play his part in helping Jurgen Klopp's side secure Champions League qualification during the run-in.

As a result they have agreed to wait for the swelling around his left knee to go down. A further scan will then determine the next course of action.

But the chances of him playing again this season are increasingly slim. Surgery is now regarded as the most likely outcome which would mean that Mane misses Liverpool's remaining eight matches.

His absence would be a major blow with the 24-year-old proving a massive hit at Anfield following his Ł30million move from Southampton last summer. As well as scoring 13 league goals, Mane has also chipped in with five assists.

Speaking on Tuesday, Klopp said: "We have to wait a little bit until the knee is not that swollen anymore.

"It’s not very positive but we cannot say what it is exactly. We have to wait.

“It is swollen because of different reasons. It’s possible (it is season-ending)."

Liverpool have struggled without Mane this season - winning just once in seven games while he was away on duty at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

It's worth noting that our last run without Mane in the team also coincided with Can playing with an ankle injury, Coutinho just returning from injury, Lovren or Matip out as well (I think?) and a packed fixture list that our small squad really couldn't handle. There's no guarantee we'll struggle as much without him as we did then.

I am copying my message from Suarez Thread, when he had the Meniscus op before the WC 2014

"Jeez so many downers here, it's a fucking meniscus nothing more, every human being who ever played football on a regular basis had that op, even me who played only as a amateur had that problem too, recovered in a month or so, but I was never a pro and I never had the whole bunch of physios to look after me so I guess he'll be good for England's game which is after a 28 days from now"

He did play with England and scored a brace too :D :D

We're more likely to get it than not but it's not a shoe in now. 3 of our best players are out including the player who transforms us from an okay attacking team to an elite one. The games will be harder and Grindy-er and wins will be tougher to come by

Out for the season. Pretty huge blow, especially against the teams we'll be up against.

We don't have anyone that can replicate the clever use of pace and width that he brings us - really need the likes of Coutinho, Origi and Sturridge to step up.

Will define our season.

An opportunity for Sturridge to put himself in the shop window, and for Origi to show Klopp that he can count on him going into next season. Not to mention opportunities for Woodburn, Trent, Wilson, and/or Ojo to step up.

Silver linings. :wave

Could have been better, but could easily have been worse as well. Thankfully Mane is quite resilient, so like Suarez he should be fine afterwards if Luis is any indication.

I also don't think it'll damage our top four hopes all that much, we're got a small gap between us and fifth/sixth places, whilst teams like United and Arsenal are gradually making it harder for themselves to get into the top four.

Things won't be like January, we have far more time between matches for a start.

While I am absolutely destroyed that Sadio will miss rest of the reason, I also see it as a desperate call of help for Origi to show the kind of form he was in at this time last season. He was the most exciting thing about Liverpool since Suarez and 13-14 season. Desperation can bring us that player again.

In the event (increasingly likely?) that he does not play any further part this season, we must consider changing our formation. 4-3-3 does not seem to work without him. Especially against the weaker teams, lets get something like the diamond going. Maybe Origi and Sturridge (or alternatively Wilson or any other fit attacker, ideally with some pace and off the ball running) as the 2 up top....

Gutted about this. Was looking forward to a strong finish to the season powered by Mane
