Hogwarts Legacy (Feb 2023)
« on: September 16, 2020, 11:11:31 pm »
An open world Harry Potter game based in Hogwarts, set in the late 1800s.

The trailer was shown at PS5 event and as a Harry Potter fan, I think it looks amazing.

I think the fact it is set way before any of the characters we know existed will really make it work and do wonders. Feels like it will be more than just a game for the kids.

I'm very excited for this, after playing all the games on the older playstation consoles as a kid I am very hyped for an open world game where you can explore the HP universe.

I just hope they do it right.

Is this Playstation exclusive?

I think you can access her Twitter through the PlayStation yeah but it’s not exclusive, and her newspaper column I think you’d need some sort of reader app that isn’t available on the PlayStation?

....oh you meant the game! Nah it’s on everything

In your opinion.

Let’s keep the Rowling chat out of here please. There are other threads for that sort of thing and the nature of the links between her and the game are either unknown or unclear. She’s clearly become a very divisive individual which has done her legacy no favours whichever side of the debate you sit on.

I’ve not played any of the Harry Potter games except for the PS1 version of the Philosopher’s Stone, but from what I’ve seen and read I haven’t missed out on much.

This new one however looks set to deliver on everything you’d want from a Harry Potter RPG, so I’ll be all over it

Looks good. Kind of thing I’d play when it became available on Game Pass. I looked up the developer’s track record and what a bizarre and varied history of releases they’ve had; Mortal Kombat remasters, the PS1 Rugrat games, NCAA Football 2k3 etc.

In the last decade though they’ve churned out licences Disney shite tied to forgettable Disney and Pixar sequels. Looks like they’ve done nothing of note for nearly 20 years. However, it looks decent, looks to have nailed the feel of Hogwarts so I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, might be a bigger team with new individuals helming the release.

The Chamber of Secrets game is brilliant if you can get a chance to play the gamecube version (the other versions had a lot of issues for some reason.)

I do wonder if it might end up being a bit of an anti-climax. An open-world Harry Potter does sound cool if you've got all of the places in the books/movies (not just Hogwarts, but Diagon Alley and all the shops/Gringotts, the Ministry of Magic, Hogsmeade etc *god what a geek*) but I think a lot of it is linked to knowing all of those characters and this is set before any of them.

Pushed back to next year with a release date of 10th February.

Oh well, plenty of other games to be getting on with. Rather they get it right.

I know they have said Hogsmeade Village and The Forbidden Forest is in the game which is exciting.

No Quidditch but they have broom flight as a mode of transport. You'd have thought that would be a deal breaker anyway.

They have a list of FAQs answered here.

Character customisation looks good, and they do a good job of pulling off that feeling how grand and huge Hogwarts looks, at least from the outside.

Hogwarts really does look incredible. I think I could just ignore the story and wander around for hours judging by the video.

I'm glad they've kept other areas like Hogsmeade away from the promo. I wouldn't want any further spoilers.

I think the UI looks fantastic and not too overwhelming, which can be an issue for me with some games.

The combat looks nice and slick.

I'm hoping some of the facial expressions are a bit better at launch, and also the door opening animations!

It's not been confirmed yet. Its not been shown on any promo or marketing, however they have been careful over what they show as they don't want to spoil it. Like they haven't shown Hogsmeade even though its in the game.

Going back to Diagonal Alley...

'Diagon Alley might not be in Hogwarts Legacy (and if not, then it sadly won't be the only disappointment in the game). Because although we've seen Gringotts Bank (located in Diagon Alley), we haven't seen the street above or any of the other shops. And Diagon Alley is so iconic that we think it would have appeared in the marketing material by now. Still, we do have Gringotts, as we said.'
