It could be a 4-4-1-1

                Reina

Kelly    Soto    Skrtel   Agger

Johnson Lucas Gerrard  Fabio

       Meireles

                   Kuyt

That was my thought too. I prefer this.

Stoke knows only one way to score - HEADERS. Kenny has nullified their only goal threat by playing 3 CBs at the back. Rest of the team can enjoy the freedom and they will. This is actually an attacking team and formation.

Will Stoke get a fine then? They've got their better players on the bench.

With Kelly, Kygriakos, Agger and Skrtel playing we are not lacking height at the back, something that could prove key. Meireles and Gerrard could dominate today, I think we will dominate the midfield with those two and Lucas holding. Diao, Whitehead and Marc Wilson are not the quickest centre mids in the world, thats for sure, so there could be an opportunity for bursting runs from deep. Looking forward to seeing Johnson on the wing today as well.

I wouldn't call this a 5-3-2, I think we will definitely end up with more of a 3-5-2, especially with Stokes tendency to defend deep due to their lack of pace at the back.

My dad's giving Kenny an absolute hammering for that team.  "Typical Kenny shite defensive team.  Fucking disgrace!"   :-X

The arl fella remembers Kenny the first time around, which I don't, but he's the first Red I've heard come out that strongly against Kenny.   ???

Sorry but I think you're Dad is getting a bit senile if he thinks Dalglish's teams were defensive.  They were always solid at the back but that's a good thing.

I hope we get the same result as when we went three at the back vs Newcastle a couple of years ago.
Those were the days. Won't even mind if Stevie beats up another DJ afterwards if we win like that :P

You unlock this door with the key of strange formations. Beyond it is another dimension: a dimension of three full backs, a dimension of Aurelio in the center of midfield, a dimension of Kuyt up front on his own. You're moving into a formation of both defence and attack, of wing-backs and one up front; you've just crossed over into

...the Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish Zone.

Be better in training maybe. I know we all want to see Dani coming through, but personally i trust the judgment of someone who was the acadamy ambassador for 18 months before taking on the managerial postiion as to who of the young lads and when they should be playing. Don't you?

If we cant beat a team with Salif Diao in then we need to get relegated. Shockingly bad footballer.

Cant get my head around the team selection and have no idea what formation is. But I trust the boss.

Anyways, sorry for the negativity people, was just taken completely aback by that teamsheet. Expected us to go with a more positive outlook at home against Stoke.

Anyways, hope it works out for Kenny. Good thing is, we've got lots of options on the bench. Lose or draw with 30 minutes left and he can easilly bring on Maxi, Ngog and Suarez for 3 defensive players to give us fresh impetus.

You admit yourself you did it under Hodgson. I stand by what I have said, just allow others to express an opinion without jumping on them because it's not what everyone else is saying.

You can stand by what you said and called me on all you like, but you'd be 100% wrong and I've got a fair few PM's from people thanking me for arguing on here AGAINST the whingers.
You're also utterly wrong if you think I did it under Hodsgson all the time, in fact, so wrong I can't be arsed even arguing with you.

Enjoy the game? I ALWAYS do unlike some mate.

I think he sees it as his role on here or something. All he seems to do, is preach and tell others how they behave. Wouldn't be too bad if he wasn;t such a hypocrite as he;ll be the first one kicking and screaming when he sees something he doesn''t agree with.

I don't mind the team, but its the worrying about the opposition that I am not really keen on. Playing Kyrigakos just to combat Stoke isn't something we should be doing in my opinion, more letting them worry about us.

We will win though.

thankfully you are not our manager. :)

it's a fantastic lineup btw. Soto to counter high balls, and the fullbacks to provide width when attacking, and clip the wings when defending.
too early to start with suarez against rough opposition. it will be cultural shock.

this shows that kenny can change the team's formation and tactics according to the opposition, not just sticking to only 1 defensive 442 formation (you know who i'm referring to).

Many of you will  not remember the late 80's, it was never really clear whether there was a set formation, just a lot of players supporting each other, especially in the last third, expect mobility and positional flexibility.

Its not about the players, its about the mentality. Even with the number of "defenders" we can have an attacking mentality which will see us win.

Just seen this...

Quote
Dirk Kuyt starts up front, while Fabio Aurelio will play in central midfield. Jamie Carragher is back on the bench after a long injury lay-off with a dislocated shoulder.

Well he's definitely got the technique, maybe Kenny is going ahead witht eh plan they've been training for all week and Adam would have been in the centre in Aurelio's place.
I can confirm that on this subject at least, there is an almost cultish obsession, which I find quite unnerving.
