as bad as saying we are lightyears from 4th when its 4 points away.

Read the Alternative table thread. Its not as simple as just being 4 points off when there are 4 teams separating you and the goal.
We’ll still finish in top four - and they won’t. You can quote me on this in May.

Top 4 this season isnt even all that anyway. We need to look beyond this season and we are looking a good team once again with a big squad of good players. Keep this form up and 1 or 2 top players and we can challenge next season.

We are the best team in the Europa. We have to win it to get CL football. There is no excuses for not winning it. Rodgers needs to show he can win something when it matters. Top 4 is not a trophy and 2nd best is a habit. He needs to win a trophy. Evans, Houllier, Rafa and Kenny all were able to win a trophy in their first 3 years. So lets continue that and get CL football/

Europa League has to be our priority now.

You, my friend, are bang on the money with this post. A refreshing blend of common sense and optimism. Pour yourself a stiff drink and light a cigar. I shall do the same, here and now, in homage to a bit of sense in a sea of shite.

4th isn't gone.

However, we've to beat Spurs and Southampton.

We're making hard work of finishing in the top 4.

Still in the hunt for top four but with the fixtures coming up will probably make or break our chance. If it goes tits up over these next six fixtures in the league then I'd rather just put all eggs in the Europa basket.

Definitely not an Outstanding performance, Brendan.
Fair result.
Mediocre match.
Mediocre performance.
Toothless finishing again.
Excessive back passing. We take it to the nth degree.
Ibe deservedly man of the match.
Nowhere near enough players in the opposition's box when we attack.
Good defensively today.
Two potentially vital points dropped against a very ordinary Everton team.

Having Gerrard there in place of Lallana is such a massive contrast, whereas Lallana doesn't stop pressing Gerrard simply cannot do it to a close enough level. It's not his fault but BR's for parts of that game it was like we were playing with ten men.

No one would even pass the ball to Gerrard at times.. It's sad really, our captain costing us points with these feckless shifts. Llalana would have really changed this game.

Did not see the game, but the Sturridge for Coutinho sub seems odd, they're great together. Did Coutinho get injured as well?

We are just behind Southampton as the form team in the league. We also wiped the floor with Spurs at WHL. Have more confidence in your own team. Spurs will be a tough game, but we are better and will win imo.
We beat a Spurs team that were in their second game with a new manager. They were better then the 3-0.

They are a very good side.

The game passed many players by, in general we couldn't get enough support to sterling or Sturridge when he came on quickly enough, that's how it looked from the tele anyway but then again it looked almost intentional, just didn't think we had the license to unleash ourselves today. Weird derby

Allen was in no way dire today, but bloody hell, he does get thrown about like a rag doll against physical teams. He gets bullied so badly sometimes that you'd expect someone to call the Department of Health on his behalf.

Agreed that Allen wasn't dire. People are being way too critical of him today imo. He was fine. Not especially great, but fine.

Also, is there any good reason why Allen - who gets bullied a lot, as you say - doesn't seem to have packed on any muscle during his time here? He's always been really slight, built like a gawky teenager as much as anything else. Considering the fitness facilities he has access to, and the money to pay for anything food / personal trainer wise he could want, bulking up would be exceptionally easy for him, relative to Joe Bloggs. Does he think it would hinder his nimbleness or something? I don't get it.

About top four, we have 11 wins in 24 games. Close to 50% win ratio, or CL spot form. After a poor beginning, we have put ourselves back in it. We need another 9 wins though, which is still a huge task. The secret is to beat the bottom half sides. Not draw, but win. Every single game against those sides.

And a point more than start of day. I'm stunned people think our chance for top 3 or 4th has gone with a draw.

Definitely not gone. But puts more pressure on the Spurs and Southampton results now. We also have City after, with some important Cup games dotted in between. It's a tough period, but hopefully we see Sturridge start Tuesday (pretty sure he will), and Coutinho and Lucas aren't injured - that'd be pretty bad for us.

Could tell that was heading for a nil nil after fifteen minutes.  Still, it's an okay result, no worth getting wound up over the dropped points.  Beat Harry Kane on Wednesday and we are all over the teams in the top 4 like a fat kid on cake.

True. And let's face it, after years with our face pressed against the glass, merely being in the CL was a bit of a damp squib, wasn't it? In fact it was more of a soaking wet squib with chronic depression. If you're not in it to win it then who gives a shit?

I'm a bit behind but only one team wanted to actually win that game and they weren't playing in blue. We needed to be more clinical but I thought we performed well. When the opposition has 11 men behind the ball at home it's never going to be easy. A win against Spurs midweek now seems vital, though.

Ibe was terrific, the lad has a great future.

You're kidding yourself if top players don't want to play CL football.
Year by year the sterlings, Henderson's etc will leave for CL football if offered.
Plus no CL means it harder to get top quality players in unless you pay massive wages which we don't seem to want to do.
Now FFP as well as it will mean no CL money.

Of course CL matters.

They also introduced some new kid to the team, can't remember his name, you know, the guy from mad men with glasses, works in tv advertising. I hear he's really good even though he can't make partner.
