Not wishing to start a debate on whether we should get him etc but thought it might be an idea to state catergorically here and now (to save confusion at a later date) whether or not this is fact or urban myth.

Can anybody give a definitive answer one way or another? ie, not speculation.

I can confirm it Hazard definitely has first refusal on which Club he joins.

First refusal doesn't actually mean anything if the player doesn't want to move to your club though, does it?

Let Lille get knocked out in December,and then we shall see.If it is down to next summer,there is probably zero chance of getting him.He'll be off to Madrid/City/Chelsea.

Can't see it being true myself. Could Lille have wanted Joe Cole that badly? And wouldn't Hazard have needed to have some say in it? From what I've read of him, he's unlikely to want to come to us in January unless we look solidly in the top four...so what good would first refusal be if we happen to be struggling in the middle of the season (not that I think we will).

Nah, myth. Doesn't hurt to be on friendly terms with Lille though, here's hoping they get knocked out of CL really fast.

The only people who could give a definitive answer would be the clubs, and they aren't likely to come out and give a definitive public comment on it one way or the other.

A few respected journalists did say it was complete bullshit though (after apparently talking to sources at Lille) so it's almost certainly bullshit.

That's a good point. If he was to leave in January, he will be cup-tied for all of the above teams (and others).

well Bennayoun was offer to Lille as well even after Cole had joined

I'm pretty sure these 'first refusal' things are all based on a 'genlemans agreement'.

Yes, Comolli can. If there was an agreement, Lille would deny it anyway so no way of knowing.
