The Jam To Reform

Weird.

I just got an email asking me if I wanted to interview them. I didn't realise they were trying to pass themselves off as the Jam.

Weller and Buckler haven't spoken since The Jam split up - don't see any chance of Weller rejoining the band and I don't see the point in Buckler and Foxton touring alone.

I feel the same. I REALLY hope Paul Weller joins them, if only so I can see them live. They split up before I was born, and I'd love to see them. But, I don't see how its going to work without Weller.

I read an interiew with Paul Weller a few months back and he said that the only time he'd consider reforming The Jam was if he was living in the gutter and it was the only way he could feed his kids, so guess Paul won't joining...

what the hell band partnership deal did they have in place?!  surely weller would have owned the name, or them all share it collectively?!

i guess these deals expire though...

all seems a bit odd really.

Well there was a court case a few years ago and the rights of different stuff like songs, credits, the name etc were split between them all I think.

Much like Weller's recent solo output, then.

Saw him in the Royal Court Theatre a couple of years ago and he was superb.  Doesn't hide the fact that the best received songs were Jam songs.

He really seems pissed off by that, but hey, he made his bed so he better lie in it, as the great man once said himself.

Unfortunately his premature splitting of the Jam has ensured his own legacy has largely been forgotten. He is paying for it now and appears a bitter man.  Shame. :(

so presumably paul has had to green light this so they can perform under the collective name?

I love his work with The Jam, but i think he has also gone on to make a good career for himself beyond then - i think you're being a little unfair in saying wat you do in that last paragraph

Without Weller the talent may be spread a little thin. The rest of the band would have trouble jellying together and no way of preserving their original sound. The whole thing will just end in one sticky mess.

Perhaps a bit harsh.  But I am a fan, and he is perhaps the greatest songsmith of the last 30 years.  But I know many 30 year olds and younger who have not got a clue who he is.  And that is sad.

Weller and the Jam especially have been relegated to the staus of a footnote.  The Jam just don't tick any boxes.  Not really 70's, not really 80's, not really punk, not new romantic, not long lived.

Wired for sound?  Nah!

'In the Country' was superb ............ an early Blur influence and no mistake. ;)
