Got a nice sunrise couple weeks ago, also got the Cormorant flying on the horizon! About 10 mins after this pic was taken we got a 5 pound seabass!!!

Since we're onto sunrsets, I got a few snaps of a spectacular one last week. As it happend it was on the day I moved out of a house I have been living in for the last five years. So I popped up on the roof and took few melancholic shots of the sun setting on that day and my time spent at that location.

The sky was truly spectacular and at one point looked like it was bleeding. At the end of Summer and beginning of Autumn we are blessed with beautiful skies.

I think you need a machine that zooms your lens over time to do the spirals property I have faked a spiral in Photoshop it didn't come out great

How exactly do you do photos like this?

Do you put the camera on a tripod, set it on manual, choose the B setting then just leave the shutter open for ages?

My settings for this where
Manual mode
Exposure 20"
Iso 2000
F/4
Jpeg
Continuous shooting mode on tripod with a cable release

Took roughly 360 photos over 2 hours and stacked them in a free programme called starstax

I will check the settings on my camera tonight when I get home. I don't think the iso goes up as far as 2,000.

I'll just put it on the highest number there is though and have a bit of a fiddle about until I have it sussed. If ever I do

As a general rule you never want to use the top iso your camera can get to, image quality takes a huge hit and you're almost always better off just boosting exposure in post.
Don't have much personal experience with stacking, but I could believe that it might help a little there.

If I was trying to match that exposure with a lower iso, I'd look at using a wider aperture or longer exposure (or both) before taking the camera to the end of its iso range.
