It does get mentioned. Barton gets mentioned more because he does that kind of thing more often. All of those incidents are also incidents that have taken place whilst the game is going on. Barton's was an off the ball incident, which makes it stand out more.

There's a difference between a horrible tackle, in a game of football, and just hitting someone in the chest because they bumped into you. Then lying about it afterwards. These people are, for reasons beyond my comprehension, role models for youngsters, Barton's the complete opposite, and it's not the first time he's done something stupid, hence the need for an otherwise excessive ban.

Tackles are one thing, just hitting someone is out of order.

This. Nobody likes to see a nasty tackle but at least it has some relevance to the game. By all means let's impose penalties to stop the very worst of two-footed horror challenges, but at the end of the day they come about because in the game of football you have to try to win the ball with your feet (assuming it's on the deck). There's absolutely no reason to throw a punch at someone.
