Bought the Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit English version (OEM) and will install it tonight. Should be interesting, new OS after almost 9 years of XP and my 1st legal version of an OS.

That's reassuring. I was a bit wary of doing a clean installation during term time, but that sounds perfectly manageable once I find a free afternoon.

Seems to run well on my PC.

Only gripe is it seems to mess up Chrome, ie loose all search settings and history all the time.
Not sure what is causing that.

I just installed the RTM version on the MAC at work today, took 25 mins to install in parallels, just installing VWD & SQL 2008 at the minute. It's running nicely at the minute and recognises all my MAC components (had problems with sound and graphics on beta).

Pity leopard is being a c*nt and won't let me install snow leopard.

On a slight side topic has anyone on here had a chance to install the new Psystar Rebel EFI software? It allows you to install OSX on your PC at home for around £40 if you wanted to try it out as an alternative to Windows or just as a dual boot.

I'd be wary of the Psystar release, no doubt it's a great tool and it will work but it will only work with what they make it work with, I'd check that I had the correct components before I'd even go near it as you never know when or if they will add support.

Some games are having issues on the 64 bit version but I am working on them. Bastard Crysis will only run in 32 bit mode.

But it is very nice, install it and I only had to install the latest Catalyst and Sound drivers. Very nice indeed.

It has a built in real time support feature apparently, I'm not willing to fork out £40 sheets until I get some solid evidence that it supports a wide range of hardware.

Must be just you as I have both overall size under my C drive icon and also at the bottom of the screen when the icon is selected. Unless you are talking about multiple drives combined, then it appears that doesn't show up.

real time support is fine but they're not going to code something specifically because 1 person is using an odd piece of hardware that isn't supported

Of course, but I suppose if the support service served any point it would be to gather information on popular setups and tune it up over time, only way I could see their software having any sort of popular uptake.

I suppose that's one of the reasons they have their own PC setups for sale with OSX preinstalled on them.

Also goes to show how Apple developers have it easy as they have a limited range of hardware configurations to program for.

Do they publish a list of supported components?

I've got everything I want to save backed up on my external HD (which automatically backs everything up every 24 hours), so there's no issue there. I remember a few years ago having reformatting the computer that I shared with my brother at the time, and realising half-way through that I'd forgotten to back up any of his stuff (on to DVD-RWs in those days). He was not amused.

Was there a piece of software released on same day as 7, that enables virtualisation?

What I need to do is install Ubuntu on a virtual machine if possible?

When I bought my new laptop, they said I'd get a free upgrade to windows 7 so I rang up the carphone warehouse and said 'how do i go about getting the free upgrade to windows 7' and he said 'go on the dell website and you'll get it' and that was it.

Anyone else had this offer and how did you get it?

Sorry if it's a stupid question
