Think I will wait until my current sub expires in January before I get the highest tier. They should have added to the collection by then aswell.

Gonna get the highest tier. Just got an email off Sony

I want to play Demons Souls and Returnal

Weird they mention Red Dead when it has no PS5 patch?
Yeah tried playing RDR2 on my PS5 lately and the 30fps is really jarring, don't even know whether it runs at 60fps on Xbox with its "FPS Boost" feature, but it's a game I'd like to finish without getting motion sickness.

Read dead will be the PS4 version. There is no next gen version on either Xbox or PS5 for read dead 2 afaik

Think we should get Returnal as well.

Think extra is the sweet spot for me. I managed to get another PS3 the other day (mine blew up!) and going to revisit some of the older PS3 games with that.
FYI, a lot of the first party games on offer are all the PS4 versions which is baffling, no 60fps upgrades for the likes of the Spiderman games, or Uncharted 4, really cheap and penny pinching shit from Sony.

New tiers arriving in Europe tomorrow. I’m assuming the list of games will be roughly the same as the US in which case I’ll be moving to the Extra tier in time for Stray at least!

Just downloaded MGXP21, ACC, Ride 4 and Death Stranding Directors Cut.

Some.great racing games on there, also want to try out WRC10.

It's a shame I always buy a lot of Sony first party day one because there is a lot of top tier stuff on there.

Demon's Souls and Returnal queued up for the three day weekend I got. Trial of Forbidden West available.

They’re currently available on both Argos and Game (which are the only places I’ve checked, there may be more).

Upgraded yesterday. was £35 to have the premium for 240 odd days. That's just brilliant value in my book, even more so as I immediately downloaded Returnal, Pillars of Eternity and The Outer Wilds - around  £100/£110 worth of games a week ago.

May downgrade to the middle tier in the future, but that'll be based on how much value/time I get out of the extended demos (which are, I assume, their way to upsell and will likely only have games that won't make it into this service)

Will see how this pans out, but, for me, and for this first period of time especially, it's fantastic value.

I agree, it’s a good offer. Sadly I’m too old now and don’t have the time anymore to play all these games. Will keep an eye out for Def Jam Fight for NY and SSX3, though

Did you already have PS Now? It's going to cost me about £120 to upgrade to premium for around 300 days.

Yeah

Though not sure what you've selected to be charged £120. I thought top tier was £99 in the UK

I was living abroad for a couple of years without a console so have a pretty big backlog of games to catch up on. So for me the extra tier is great value rather than having to buy everything. Ghost of Tsushima, guardians of the galaxy and returnal all on my radar.

No thank you - Gamepass money is not guaranteed in the industry, it's no replacement for genuine customers

Last of us Remastered will sell a ton, God of War 2, the future release cycle... why leave that money on the table? (I wouldn't mind discounts as a loyal subscriber though). I get that everybody wants something for "nothing" but as I've rhapsodised on about before, Sony seeking to be genuinely sustainable is better for the industry than Gamepass

Sorta tired by the comparisons - not you matey, EVERYWHERE lol. But this iteration is a success.

There is more than enough on the service to keep anyone entertained at present. I quite like the game trials option

I recommend this article, particularly as Pushsquare were pretty critical (which is why I read them) https://www.pushsquare.com/features/reaction-ps-plus-ps5-ps4-restart-is-welcome-and-smart

On a far less practical level, it sounds mad but I actually think that I like looking forward to games being released, buying a physical copy and going home to play it. I get that Gamepass doesn’t stop me from doing that but I just think such a total plethora of games being thrown in your face at all times including the brand new latest releases just takes away from the experience a bit.

Probably sound a bit ridiculous and inevitably a product of my nostalgia of saving up to buy games like Metal Gear Solid and the latest Tomb Raider on release date but just my two pence on the subject.

Absolutely I've fallen lucky in that I have a mass of games on a list to catch up on and a good few are on that extra tier. The big test for them is if people will still be subscribed in a years time. Have to make sure they put good stuff on regularly

Don't know if anyone has already mentioned it but for me, this new tiered PS Plus service is nothing but a rebranding of PS Now.  Looking through all the games that I could have access to, its very near identical to what I had available with that.  Just a few more PS5 games which were always bound to be part of PS Now anyway overtime and the opportunity to trial some games.

Yep, but what I meant is that nothing really has changed other than the rebranding whilst some have been expecting more (i.e. a Gamepass like service).  I guess Sony have been clever in combining it under one name and marketing it as a neccessary and front-facing service which is I'm guessing PS Now was failing to do.  No idea what the take up of PS Now was but I'm guessing the new PS Plus will end up in more subscriptions.

PS Now was also only available in 19 countries.

They're opening up to major markets with the new PS Plus, especially markets where games aren't particularly cheap.

I don't think you're getting game streaming now if you didn't have PS Now earlier. Certainly not here in India. One of the only reasons I was thinking of upgrading was so I could play the God of War games again, but that's still not an option with the new PS+ tiers either

It is much more similar to Gamepass isn't it?  Gamepass gets you (download) access to many (over 300) games to download and play - if they leave  Gamepass you can't play them, but you can buy them (at a usually large discount) to keep.  PS Now got you access to stream 100s (if that) of (mostly older) games that could be removed at any time.  The new tiers of PS Plus gets you access to download and nearly 400 Playstation 4/5 games (and load s of PS1/2 games on the Premium option on top, as well as PS Now style streaming of PS3 games).  If a game leaves the service you lose access - like PS Now (but also like Gamepass) - the only difference is Gamepass by default seemed to have a large sale on any game leaving the service, whereas as PS Plus tiers are new, nobody knows (but given the frequency of PSN sales is steam-like, one can imagine a similar discount would be offered a lot of the time).

The only difference could be in the types of games - Gamepass has all new Microsoft First Party titles at launch, by design, as a way of distinguishing itself from the old PSN Plus.  Whereas we do not know what will happen with PSN Plus new tiers - all we know is some of the smaller indie games will launch on the service, but we simply don't know what will happen with the new Sony exclusives, largely as the new tiers are so new, we've not had a single press conference (we have had 1 short, 30 mins, State of Play with zero new first party exclusives involved) since the (online) announcement.

They are expanding the streaming service definitely - it was 19 countries before that had the streaming service available, they have already added 11 new countries to the streaming.  India isn't one (I am guessing because the  average internet speeds are probably not as quick to enable everyone having game streaming) yet - they have said they will expand the number of countries it is available in over time; but for now it means you get everything BUT the PS3 game streaming service (the PS1/PS2 games WILL be available, but for download instead of choosing between downloading and streaming) for a cheaper price (somewhere between the Extra cost, and how much the Premium WOULD cost if the PS3 game streaming was available)

I've got about three quarters left on my annual ps plus (essential) sub, and had a look at the upgrade options. All the quotes are for the full duration (something like 30quid for upgrading to Extra). Mate wants to play Returnal so might do that at some point later this summer, but was wondering if anyone saw an option where you can temporarily upgrade a tier?

eg paying half the upgrade cost for extra to be able to sample that tier for six months.

gonna assume theyre cheeky bastards and dont allow that, but thought i'd check with others

No, I don't think this is possible. In your case, you should probably wait until you have six months remaining on your existing subscription before upgrading.

Same here, it's £34 for me to upgrade for 9 months or so, I went through the list of available games and there were 2 or 3 out of them all that I hadn't played, and wanted to play, so probably not great value for me.

I would imagine the idea is to hold some stuff back so they have some stuff to release at later dates. The catalogue is due to update regularly so i imagine they want to make sure they have some big hitters to spread over the next year.
