Some moaning in here, Alonso showing the loyalty we would expect any manager who'd been here 2 years to show.

I don't think anyone is necessarily blaming Alonso. More just disappointed and perhaps not overly impressed by the other options

I see a lot of disappointment that our favoured candidate ain’t coming. Nothing wrong with that. Only seen one or two posts having a pop at Alonso personally, and I’m sure they’re just knee jerk reactions

Naglesmann is a top tier manager in the making. He#s just a bit of a c*nt. But if we did go for him we'd be waiting till August to get him in and that's not right.

LFCs stance

It’s Alonso, pure and simple,
Was born in a world where love survives
Now many will want him, cause life don't haunt him
Alonso, is a lucky, lucky thing

I don't want De Zerbi simply because of the defensive side but he shouldn't be completely overlooked. They've been fairly shite this year but it's somewhat of a re build. He lost his midfield and the forwards aren't firing, hence the shite season. If Klopp said he was leaving last season at the same time how high would he be on people's lists? I'd guess top for many.

Xabi is still a managerial newcomer, but he’s the only candidate that may not be a step down from Klopp.

Everyone else has had numerous years in management, and/or numerous jobs, and they have all shown that they definitely fall short of Jurgen.

Xabi is the only one who might be as good.

I’d be gutted if he doesn’t come, but as I’ve said earlier, he’d be mad to take the job.

And I don’t trust our owners not to mingebag the alternatives and fuck everything up.

It kind of makes sense for him. No distractions for the run in, a crack at the Champions League next year, knowing that the Madrid job will be there waiting for him at the end of the season.

Fucking Madrid. It’s always them.

De Zerbi would be awful. I pray it is not him.

Is Amorim not doing something similar as Klopp? Two teams out spending them every year and still competing. Doing well in Europe when you compare their squad to others. I suppose there is more transfer spend in England than two over us but not wages wise we are up there.

Is there anyone in that sporting side that gets into our squad?

In a nutshell.

He's likely to only get one chance to manage LFC and this is the time, if these reports are true he has coldly decided to let it pass.

If it's his dream to become manager #3797 of Madrid in a couple of years FOR a couple of years he is not the man I thought he was - is it a crime to think that mild thought on a Liverpool forum?

Disappointed about Alonso. Amorim seems a very capable trainer. His 3-2-5 in attack would be an interesting fit for our squad. Trent's role might change dramatically. Hard to know how Amorim would manage the rest of the club. It would be a lot of responsibility on young shoulders.

Your second point kinda contradicts the first. This won't be his only opportunity to manage Liverpool given his age, and Madrid is hardly a job for life. It's not massively surprising to me if he doesn't feel the timing is right.

His body of work is outstanding at Sporting and he looks the right culture fit.

Xabi's complaints about UK taxes and tax evasion trials in Spain didn't sit comfortably with me. He says the right things about the club but I don't reckon he would connect like Jurgen did. Not that that should disqualify him, but it makes me less bothered about his apparent decision.

Alonso is the best thing since sliced bread. We'd never have lost any game with him in charge and we'd get 114 points every season.

He's one of a kind. A proven winner. The only manager that can replace Jurgen. History has shown that only managers like Alonso can succeed here.

NOT. On to the next.

Like I said, empty speculation is boring. We still have trophies to win under Jurgen.

I’ve plenty links to the clubs playing and backroom staff as many on here know thank you very much. Fair enough, I admire your optimism. But you’re absolute ostriches if you think this squad, even with 2 or 3 new, “cut price” players with potential get us anywhere close

No hindsight but Amorim's style of play is more suited to our players than Alonso's style of play.
I think Alonso will join Madrid after a year at Bayer.

Suggests that he wants to go to Madrid post Leverkusen.
Does it though? Suppose that's right and he goes there in a year or so. He'd be 43? How many years will Madrid keep him as manager; three, four? The what's next for him after 47, say, for another 20 years? Perhaps Alonso is not looking to change jobs every 2-3 years. And while I'm sure the he will manage Madrid one day, maybe even in several stints, I think he would want to build a legacy of his own. I think Leverkusen can be that place. Win a couple of league titles, try to push in the CL a few seasons, who knows... Even five years from now he would be a sought after manager if he keeps his career trajectory.

Madrid after Leverkusen may seem logical now, but in a year or two that may not be the case. There may be time when we appeal to him more than Madrid or Bayern the same way Leverkusen appeals to him more than the rest right now.

Objectively, this is a good move by Alonso. He’s in absolutely no rush. If he is the second coming, a couple more years will prove that at Leverkusen. And he’ll more than likely still have the pick of us, Bayern or Real.
