If HTC can get this one right, it could be a good day for Cav with the intermediate sprint being relatively close to the end.

Can't see a breakaway doing much today.

Was thinking that myself, went well into the red to win two days ago and then went all out for the intermediate yesterday but made no attempt at all for the stage yesterday. Thought he was probably going to be saving himself for todays stage.

So, the transfer window opens again this evening, what are everyone's transfer plans?  I'm thinking that unless Petacchi does something spectacular today then he will be my one change this evening.  Saving most of my changes for the end of the week when they hit Pau.  What is everyone elses strategy?  Not sure who to bring in for Petacchi though, maybe Greipel, maybe Cadel.

On the same day Wiggins was talking about hopefully not getting caught in any crashes.

Only caught it afterwards, not sure how it came about but they mentioned a cross wind was coming in. Looked a fairly simple straight road and a couple of Sky riders went down. Few big names caught up in it with Brad coming off the worst.

As said above, was in great form and was really looking forward to seeing how he got on this year, Sky in good form and everything was going well. Too well.

Team Sky suffered a devastating blow at the Tour de France when Bradley Wiggins abandoned the race following a crash on stage seven.
Also see

The Team Sky leader was caught up in a mass pile-up 38 kilometres out on the 218km route from Le Mans to Chateauroux.

The 31-year-old British champion finished fourth in the 2009 Tour and had enjoyed an almost perfect build-up to this year's race, including an overall win at the Critérium du Dauphiné, the traditional Tour warm-up. He had continued that fine form at the Tour, standing just 10 seconds behind race leader Thor Hushovd in sixth on the overall standings after a solid first week.

Wiggins remained on the road surface for around two minutes after the crash and when he got to his feet he was holding his left arm to his body.

He was examined by both the official race doctor and his team doctor Rochard Freeman, before making the decision to abandon the race and enter an awaiting ambulance.

The injury was confirmed as a broken left collarbone by his team.

The hammer blow for the British team came almost exactly 24 hours after they had claimed their first stage win at the Tour, Edvald Boasson Hagen winning stage six in Lisieux.

Yeah lost over 3 mins. Few questioning why Thomas was not allowed to get back with the main bunch seeing as there was enough help for Brad, but being team leader you can understand why.

Congrats to Cav. He's the fastest sprinter, and got the best team around him. Can't really see anyone beating him on a flat sprint.  Gutted for Wiggins, had high hopes for him this year. Now it's gonna be another year with Schlecks vs Contador, and the guy  eating the most spanish beef will probably win..

Absolutely gutted for Brad today. I know he was high on morphine or something when Ned Boulting interviewed him leaving the hospital but he's taken it in such a gracious manner.

Shame we won't see what he can do in the mountains with the form he showed at the Dauphine.

I'm not a Brit and I support the Schlecks but I'm very disappointed that Wiggins is out. Having lost 13kgs, I was looking forward to seeing if he could stick with Andy and Contador in the mountains this time. Had a feeling he was on for a very good tour! Such a pity. Would have been compelling viewing. :(

So two Cat 4s followed by a Cat 2 and finishes on top of a Cat 3. Surely Thor can't do it again? I mean I wrote him off a few days ago on the hill top finish but surely not? ???

Ends with 1.5km at 7.6%. Hopefully this isn't another one of those stages where Andy loses 10s as the final kick is so short. Seems to prefer the proper big, long climbs.

Really pissed for Wiggo, as others have said it would have been great to see him take on the big guns in the mountains this year in the shape he was.

Cavs win was some consolation but liked his genuine shock and reaction to the Wiggo news right after his win. 'Shit' was just about everyones reaction - HTC race radio obviously hadn't mentioned the SKY mess, wonder if that was not to distract Cav.

Next few days look like right lottery, strong sprinters like Thor and EBH or classics riders like Gilbert and Cadel or top climbers - really can't decide.

Stage 4:

Because of that 5% section that is 3.5 kim's long, I see riders like Thor being dropping if the pace is hot which I think it will be... I pretty sure Gilbert is gonna have a tough time winning the stage IMO, if this exact climb was in on of the one day classic it might be different seeing as it wouldn't be riden with the same intensity as it will be. A long shot that might be worth a punt is Damien Cunego, he has the climbing ability and as a very good turn of pace but seeing as he always disappoints when the Tour comes around he nothing more than a long shot.

Alberto Contador is favorite at 7/2. Cadel Evans is at 9/2 and Phillipe Gilbert is at 11/2.

:)

Kind of reason why I like Cadel and hope he takes the overall now Wiggo is out.

Well if he only loses around two and a half minutes to Contador and Andy Schleck in the mountains, he is in with a shout of taking the overall IMO.

Just thought I'd mention there is 45 points separating the top 6 in the fantasy competition.
