Gran Turismo: Sport
« on: October 4, 2017, 07:53:11 am »
Couldn't find a thread for this so apologise if there is one.

It launches in a couple of weeks time but there is going to be a demo on the UK store on October 9th.

I'll be picking it up but I know it's primarily an online focused game. Anyone else buying It?

I haven't played GT since the amazing GT2 and since getting an Xbox and playing Forza

Is this one still going to be similar to all other GTs? Work your way up? The online focus doesn't sound great to be honest

No with the primary focus being online a lot of the single player is very linear. You'll still have your licenses and such but no real career progression. With the growth of esports and the success of GT Academy Kaz and Polyphony have took GT in this direction.  I think it's a shame to some degree however I have high hopes for the online aspect because it's more dedicated so you'd hope it actual works well rather than a tagged on element.

Also I think that's why they haven't called it GT7.

I used to love the GT series when I played with a controller, but got over the whole simcade thing a while after getting a half decent ffb wheel.  I may give project cars 2 a go but otherwise am happy to stick with Assetto Corsa. I just find it so much better/more rewarding than GT/Forza.

I also have assetto corsa. Truth is i need a new wheel, probably the g29. I'm in the middle of decorating my room so i'm gonna have a bit of a shuffle around and move both my pc and ps4/tv side by side, meaning i can permanently have the wheel and pedals set up and easily switch between the two systems.

Just downloaded the demo. Doesn't unlock till Monday but there's a visual showcase of the cars, replays and scapes you can watch. Visually no racing game has ever looked so good. It's truly phenomenal and it's nothing to do with it being on ps4 but you can tell it's took years and years to craft these cars from scratch.

It's car porn.

Ya .. have to agree. I have a PS4 Pro running through a 4K TV and the showcase is simply stunning... Looking forwards to trying it out and also the full version for my PSVR..

It does look superb, the second pic there looks fantastic.

My worry with this is that, especially as someone who only plays online a bit, it looks limited in scope overall and I’m keen to see if they’ve improved on the handling and sound from before, and how the racing offline is.

As good as it looks in promos I’m more wary as compared to a lot of the rival racing games around now the last GT was dull and poorly structured. It had fallen behind the times really, unless you wanted a photo mode for obscure Japanese cars.

I’ll no doubt end up buying it at some point because I love racing games and have loved GT games over the years but will wait a while to see how it beds in, not least because PC2 and F1 are keeping me busy currently.

The handling and sound has been improved. But yeah it's huge emphasis is online. Which I don't mind but I did used to like the old style Sunday cup grind and slowly working your way up .

Looks great but just seems sterile compared to the likes of Dirt Rally. I guess the lack of crashes and damage didn’t matter so much back in its glory era on PS1.

Spent hundreds of hours on GT2 back in the day.

GT3 was my favourite.

Great selection of cars, graphically great for it's time and a belter soundtrack. I'd never used analog sticks on a racing game before then either but there was a license you had to do in a certain time round seattle in a gt40 and for the life of me i couldn't do this quick left, right on the dpad, took me hours, finally had a crack with the analog sticks and did it!

I disagree.  I think that the replays look phenomenal on GTS, but the GT series has always done that better than anybody else with whatever rendering technique it is that they use.   As far as the actual graphics when racing though, especially from the onboard view, I think that aside from some of the lighting PCars 2 looks much better overall.

Just got it the other day

I didnt realize that online play is a subsciption $5 amonth

Im an old GT2 player from back in the day

I think the music on GTS sucks. No banging rock tracks at all.

The imagery is amazingand the engine seems great

so far just ploughing through the licences and such

so far so good

i do miss the decent music though

No.

It's pretty much online focused so obviously you need a psn sub.

It's brilliant online. Not come across many dickheads, there a real racing etiquette and a well balanced driver rating and sr system. If you start banging into everyone you get to drive with the other idiots wanting to play bumper cars while the rest enjoy a level of professionalism online found in iracing and such.

Haven't had a chance to play much yet, but me and a friend were trying to have a quick private race and couldn't work out how? Tried to match the room pins up but just wouldn't connect. Pretty frustrating as I dont see why you just cant invite people to a private race.

What are everyone’s views on this after some play time?

I’m tempted to pick it up at some point - will probably finish the F1 career championship I’m in first. Then it’s either GT or something completely different like Horizon!

It plays really good. It honestly depends if you play online or not. There's enough licenses and missions to keep you busy for a while but the really depth of the game comes online. Its also got a pretty decent livery editor too and the scapes mode is really cool.

But ultimately if you race online I think there's not a better option on console.

I heard they are planning on releasing more cars for this in a patch. Not sure if that's true, but one thing I've been hearing (not played GT since A-Spec) is the lack of motors in the manufacturer's. I miss when GT 1-4 had nearly 1000 cars to browse. GT2 had the used cars that you could sift through when you were starting out and strapped for cash (these days the c*nts would probably make you buy those in loot boxes) finding an old banger you liked, and then souping it up. It was great. Sure you never owned all those cars, but the option of going through a virtual Auto Trader was brilliant. The newer games supposedly only have about a 10th of the cars. I understand that building them takes a lot of time, but after all of Polyphony's talk of having next gen assets for their PS3 models, that turned out to be bullshit, unless they release them all for free for GT Sport in the near future for free, but I'm not holding my breath.

Looking forward to the December updated - I've nearly maxed out the existing single player mode.  Finding it quite addictive so far.

I find the rewards/awards system ridiculously generous (annoyingly so) though - I can barely start an engine without winning a new supercar.  I must have about 5,000,000 and 30 cars, having only done 8 races and bought two cars myself.

I think it's a good idea PD are incorporating the more traditional SP mode back in. I think ultimately there intentions were good in trying to move racing into a more competitive online professional environment in the console space. I think maybe they jumped in at the deep end too quick and maybe people wasn't ready for it, maybe a more gradual progression towards that online centric game wohkd of been better but since they only release games few and far between maybe they thought they had to go with it now.

Also if they'd of stuck the stuff in from older games like GT2 etc then it's possible they get lamented for not taking risks and using decade old formulas. People might say "fucking grinding in the Sunday cup just so I can update my used mazda mx5 with a slightly more powerful turbo..." which by the way I'd of loved because i enjoyed that whole rpg esque grind in the older GT games. As I did the cars even though I probably only used a tenth of them.

I like some of the new circuits, and those real-world ones that remain are great (big fan of Bathurst), but I would love for some of the classics to return.  High Speed Ring, Trial Mountain, and Midfield Raceway, at the very least, are absolute classics that should be permanent fixtures.  I suspect we'll be paying for these as DLC in six months or so, though...

yeah, the track selection with this game is absolutely dismal. 17 tracks is pathetic given the Polyphony/Sony budget.  If Slightly Mad Studios can manage 52 tracks for PCars 2 then why can't Polyphony?  So, so much about this game is half-arsed.

What do people think of the December update?

I've not renewed my PS+ and - without committing hours per day by any means - I'm still finding the game to have plenty of life in it.  I've 3/4 of the earlier campaign mode golds still to achieve (completely failed on the below) and reckon I've done about a third of the competition races in the new update.  I'll upgrade my PS+ soon, and head online, but for the £35 outlay I'm happy with what I've got so far.

I think it's a good update, for free too! Just takes the edge off the competitive online side and the missions etc and gives you more of the old school sp aspect. They are continually adding cars too and hopefully some tracks further down the line.

How are you GT players finding the online community with this? I'm on Forza 7 and it's great until you get the people intent on just causing chaos by ramming you off, good game though

Well you get driver ratings on GT. So if you ram people you get demoted with all the other rammers basically. So rammers vs rammers and people who wanna race properly against each other. Of course you will still encounter the odd idiot even if you  have a high rating but generally the system works.

That sounds like a much better way of doing it mate. They have introduced leagues now so I'm hoping there is some sort of penalty system in place. I wish they would just remaster Destruction Derby and migrate the smashers off to that.
