I think it would be a fantastic move for the both of them,  Hope it doesn't happen like!

For rafa - Close to home, knows the city, would get a nice budget etc

For everton - Manager who has won it all, great at cup comps, has a nice sway to bring in better players etc

But he would surely have them competing for trophies, the guy is a machine when it comes to cup competitions.
he wouldnt be a great fit so

Does anyone else find it bizarre how many people seem to think that Newcastle is near to the Wirral? It's a good four hour commute there, unless Rafa has a private helicopter or something.

Uses Mike Ashley's helicopter, according to reports in the press.

Chelsea is nothing to us. Just like Spurs, they imagine they are.

Everton and United are historical rivals.

Saw it somewhere yesterday, but apparently Leicester are ready to pounce for Rafa if it goes to shit at Newcastle with Fat Mike. Puel not wanted.

Leicester wouldn't be bad either.

According to the article I posted earlier, Leicester City's 2016-17 wage budget was £90m in the bottom half of the midtable pack, salary-wise, while Newcastle United's was £47m

Everton's wages were still slightly higher at £106m, just short of Spurs at £120m

edit:  Of course, Arsenal's the big job opening at £234m player budget.  Rafa could do some work with that, I'm sure.

Everton are our cross-city arch-rivals. Chelsea are Not. Spurs and City are the new Chelsea these days to us. That's how much of a rivalry that was.

They'd turn on him very quickly if he didn't start well as well. Which he probably wouldn't at first. Remember some of our games in his first league campaign with us? There were some proper shocking performances and results in that first season.

Here's a sobering thought:  If Rafa joined Everton, he'd more than double his wage budget.

https://sillyseason.com/list/salaries/premier-league-wages-per-team-69064/

And he'd be able to commute from home.

But on the downside, he'd have to manage Everton.

Mad that - what about Stoke and West Brom !!

Rafa said right from the start there are two clubs he would never go to in England: Everton and Manchester United. Taking the Chelsea job was always on the cards but still went badly in terms of the fan-base being hostile to the appointment.

Are they confusing it with Newcastle Under Lyme?

Anyway, I live in Switzerland which for some reason people think is in Scandinavia, near Sweden. I keep telling them it has a border with Italy, just like Norway.

Stranger things have happened but the Newcastle players look like they are on holiday already. I’m hoping Spurs are feeling the heat and drop the points.

Chelsea I expect to win, not because Huddersfield won’t give it a good go but because they are on a pretty impressive run of wins.

You just never know this part of the season all sorts of strange results can occur. The most important thing is for us to hold our nerve and make sure we grab three points at the last game. But it would be cool if Chelsea or Spurs drop a few more points before Sunday that's for sure.

Just to predict the next few days in this thread...we’ll see a few posts full of optimism til Newcastle go a goal down. Then a flurry saying they’re shite and Rafa’s too good for them. Paul will get annoyed and ten a few worthy types will remind us smugly we only have ourselves to blame for being in this position.

A ref or two will get blamed somewhere along the line too.

But hopefully that won’t happen, would be really rather nice if Rafa can get his boys up for the next two games, especially Sunday.

If they hadn't done a 4 in a row defeat streak after hitting 41 points they could actually have been in with a shout of Europe on the last day. Lost 4 games by 1 goal margins, 3 of them very winnable.

It's been a mad season down there when a team that had something like a point in 9 games at one point can go through another 4 defeat streak, yet finish in the top half. 10th final position.

You add 4 quality additions in the obvious positions to the structure he's got them playing with now, things could get quite interesting next season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez said: "When you have the fans behind the team all season, this is the best way to finish. We knew that if we started with high tempo we could keep the fans behind the team. With good spells and bad spells through the season we are happy to finish 10th."

Asked about the atmosphere at St James' Park, Benitez said: "The final day here is always special because of the atmosphere the fans produce. From day one they were pleased with our work. We can enjoy today but there is still room for improvement. There is another year on my contract and I will try to do my best to move forward."
