Just seen these letters in The Times:

Sir, Further to your leading article (“Never Norway”, Mar 27) , the idea that Common Market 2.0 is a non-negotiable unicorn is false. As recently as January Michel Barnier stated that the EU “would be ready to immediately support this evolution and respond favourably” to such a Norway-style proposal.

Nor would we be a “rule-taker”, as claimed. We would have powers over agriculture, fisheries, justice, home, defence and foreign affairs. On single market regulations we could negotiate opt-outs and would have a right of reservation. More than 400 EU acts have not been implemented in Iceland and Norway since the foundation of the European Economic Area.

Common Market 2.0 would respect the referendum result. We would leave the EU’s political institutions while continuing to benefit from a close economic relationship. Common Market 2.0 has its disadvantages, every real-world compromise does. But Common Market 2.0 can succeed where the government has failed so far. It is a serious, practical and deliverable option that is negotiable with the EU and which can bring together a divided country.
Nick Boles, MP; Stephen Kinnock, MP; Lucy Powell MP; Rob Halfon, MP

Sir, Your editorial makes the case against the Common Market 2.0 plan while David Smith (Business Comment, Mar 27) argues against being a member of a customs union on the ground that it restricts our ability to negotiate independent trade deals. A key feature of both arguments is that somehow this ability is a gain from Brexit. All the evidence is that in reality Britain is too small to negotiate anything better than that which already exists courtesy of agreements already agreed by the EU. The best we have been able to do is roll over these agreements, while Japan and the US are demanding more advantageous terms from the UK.

To give Mr Smith his due, he has also argued elsewhere that Brexit was a mad idea, and it is hard to disagree with that. But if we are to respect the result of the referendum, simultaneously obtaining the best trade deals on offer while securing an absence of a hard border in Northern Ireland, surely Common Market 2.0 is the best of the options likely to be available, bearing in mind that the evidence on net migration to date is that EU immigration is being replaced almost one for one with non-EU immigration?

May will definitely try WA4 - she’s that stubborn.

Whether Bercow or Parliament will allow it is moot. Today was amusing if only to witness Raab and Boris display their Simpson Grandpa gif about turn because they thought the leadership was up for grabs.

Then there’s Frottage on now bellowing about betrayal. I’m reminded of Spencer Tracy in “Inherit the Wind”, when he uttered the line, “You’re not just wrong, you’re wrong at the top of your voice”.

Frottage has just praised the 50 Sunderland marchers who have arrived in London.

A terrible rate of attrition from the 200 who left the North East. Three out of four must have died from trench foot, plague and boredom.

No mention of FOM, I note and with regards to their response to their "rule taker" assertion, it dances around the fact that we will have given up the powers to vote down the single market legislation that they claim we could negotiate opt-outs of.

It's not true at all,the Labour split is because of people like you who after coming to the party decided that the voting base didn't march how you all like, you then started insulting every fucker who didn't like the taste of jezzas piss and actively started working to alienate them from the party they have been with for their entire lives (unlike YOU).

The DUP (loathsome as they are) are the one group of people who’s position I understand.

They want to leave the EU (odd, but we can agree to differ there) but don’t want to be treated differently to the rest of the UK.  And they’ve got a point.  If NI is in the UK, it should be the same as the rest of the UK.  It’s only fair onnthem and the rest of the UK. And effectively that does mean that they can never back leaving the EU. It’s just taken them a while to realise that.

So.  What happens now?

Does May stay or go? Surely she stays and tries for a fourth vote?  She’s got the numbers down to just a big defeat now.

And if there’s no more votes? What the hell happens?  Once again, no deal looms large on the horizon. All we need to do for no deal to occur is... nothing.

And I could see nothing happening.  Despite an enormous majority against it, the government could just let it happen.   An it be stopped?

because for many of them it's not actually been about the EU (Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson & Fuckwitted Pob lookalike Michael Gove are prime examples of this) it's been about personal ambitions with regard to becoming the Tory leader and consequently Prime Minister.

Yep, anyone remember Johnson not declaring which side he was going out to bat for until he'd met Cameron and established if he was Leave or Remain?

Johnson went with the opposite with the leadership in mind, and almost pulled it off if it wasn't for that pesky Gove

Who knows?

I don't think a No Deal will happen, not even May is that stupid.  It's possible that the DUP could next week back one of the options on the table I guess.  Mogg sold them down the river today, he may well regret that if his Victorian Utopia doesn't materialise.

If May goes against parliament next week, if a consensus is found she really is in trouble and that could see a Confidence motion succeed.

I think, one way or another, we are heading towards a General Election in May

I think, one way or another, we are heading towards a General Election in May
Never ever ever assume that something is too stupid to happen in the Brexit world.

Yep, anyone remember Johnson not declaring which side he was going out to bat for until he'd met Cameron and established if he was Leave or Remain?

Johnson went with the opposite with the leadership in mind, and almost pulled it off if it wasn't for that pesky Gove

Imagine if Cameron had campaigned for leave.  Boris could have won the Remain vote and been PM by now.  And Jeremy would have had a corony having to campaign against Cameron to stay in the EU ;D
