really enjoy most of the storyville documentaries. Two that really touched me were 'I will be murdered' and 'silence in the house of god: mea culpa'.

don't know if anyone remembers Death on a Staircase which followed the murder trial of a man accused of killing his wife, and it really examined the trial by media culture that exists even in small town suburbia, the trial had so many twists and turns you'd swear it was scripted

i seem to remember it came on over xmas one year, never seen it repeated since, but it was gripping

Death on a Staircase was on the BBC Storyville series. This is the same case but looks like a different documentary:

Watched this the other week, really worth a watch. Excellent story-telling, especially if you know nothing about the guy.

Older ones are on youtube, but if you have a passing interest in the NFL, Hard Knocks is an exceptional show. Very similar to Being Liverpool but with none of the awkwardness.
'Despite their  cup pedigree - since they've returned to the top flight in 1962 - Everton have, after today's results, once again gone further in the FA Cup than their much vaunted neighbours. For the record it's Everton 23 Liverpool 22  and 7 ties in 52 seasons'

Just watched Requiem For Detroit on BBC iPlayer.

Shocking the decline of once great city.  It's like a post apocalyptic landscape.

Can't understand how it's got so bad, and that the government hasn't helped out.  We thought the inner cities were bad under Thatcher, but this hits a whole new level.

A must watch.

Agreed, stumbled across this the other night on BBC Four.

You should check out the Michael Moore Doc on Flint, Michigan. It was his first ever film. Obviously there are questions over the film-making of Michael Moore but its still a great watch.

The Architect & The Painter about Ray & Charles Eames is Defo worth a watch if you're into design. Amazing how influential they still are as all things mid century make a comeback (is that just down to Mad men ?)

Agree. Brilliant documentary. Probably the best film I've seen about de-industrialisation. More apt for the fact that it is set in Detroit.

Julien Temple has made some great docs. Loved his one on Dr Feelgood, Oil City Confidential. Brilliant piece of film-making.

Yep watched it this afternoon. I stayed a month out near the Appalachian mountains a decade ago, it is full of small places like this, breathtaking beauty, but the mining industry destroying towns and lives. Pretty depressing, and not a place for someone of colour.

My eldest daughter has friends' in WV and on her first trip to see them she was taken to Kentucky for the weekend and on the way back her mate took to see the rural area's and she came home and was shocked that people living in the richest nation in the world were living in what she called shed's.

And it's not like she didn't know about the poverty in the U.S. as she's spent 2 year's living, working, and travelling the States with friend's.

It's beyond wrong, trillions of $'s fighting wars, yet poverty like that is allowed to decimate whole communities. That documentary about Detroit is another example of a community just left behind.I watched that when it came out and thought how can you leave a city to just fade away, but it happens and central government just looks the other way while the manufacturers are allowed to move their business to wherever it's cheapest to maximise the profits for an elite few.

Spot on mate, and quite chilling how people are so brainwashed by the right-wing media propaganda machine which works solely for the interest of the rich, that they either drop out altogether or end up feeling pity for the billionaire (Tea Party loons).

watched this yesterday: http://freedocumentaries.org/teatro.php?filmID=87&lan=en&size=big   Orwell Rolls in his grave (preaching to the converted and a similar theme to hundreds of other similar docs, but never fails to get me angry at peoples stupidity and apathy)

Anyone got a link to that Requiem For Detroit?

Sounds interesting and right up my street, not literally.

Done the youtube search, and torrent search to no avail. Also not currently available on iplayer... My options are running out.

Is it the one BBC did or the older one from 2010?
