I'm no civil engineer or architect but would it not be possible to raise the Kop's roof to the same level as the new Main and ARE stand and cantilever the single tier out over the back so it overhangs the road if necessary?
Far more qualified people than I would need to answer that question.
I'm sure it's possible. I mean most things are given the money and the will, but whether it's worth it, cost-wise, to gain relatively few new seats, I'm really not sure.
I don't suppose it helps matters that there are, I think, plans for new buildings on the other side of Walton Breck Road, opposite the Kop. So a Kop that is higher and that goes further back would surely impact on those and the light they get. Re-routing WBR was maybe the best way to go there, but I imagine that ship has already sailed now. It's a shame in so many ways that now we have owners who know what they are doing, they are sort of hamstrung by shortsighted decisions made by their predecessors. Selling the houses on Skerries Road may have seemed like a good idea years ago, but now it would be a major problem for any potential Sir Kenny Stand expansion to match the Main Stand.
To me, the time to think about securing land behind the Kop is now, before new builds go up there but, as I say, that ship has probably already sailed now and the road won't get re-routed, even if only slightly. I could well be talking garbage of course, as I don't really know enough about it.
