Never a bad one to watch Ward-Gatti, but was it that controversial? (Honestly canít remember).

Was going to suggest Lennox Lewis v Ray Mercer. Havenít watched it since it happened. Remember it being really close and one of the better heavyweight fights

Maybe do both? Anyone got any other suggestions?

From memory I don't think it was mate. Micky Ward got the majority decision in the first fight.

I think it was Welshred who suggested Calzaghe v Hopkins for the rewatch. That would be interesting to see after all these years.

I suggested that. Welshred reckoned there was no controversy

Before this I've never watched fights that have gone to decision unless I watched it live. Really enjoying seeing these fights for the first time.

I'm happy to watch any suggestions but would prefer to stick to controversial/razor thin decisions.

Three on my list that I would like to get to at some point are Degale v Groves, Mayweather v Castillo 1 and Hopkins v Calzaghe

I'm a bit late here but I gave it MAB by 116 - 111, pretty clear.

That said, so many close rounds it could go either way. A lot of rounds where I think MAB had the best moments but Morales was on top for more of the 3 minutes. The 115 card to Morales is some bullshit though.

I don't have extensive notes on this one because I was glued to it! Great choice.

Calzaghe v Robin Reid might be one for the list? I definitely thought Joe had lost that one

Kind of Boxing related I guess but MGM Grand is reopening their casinos from June 4th. If they're allowing dickheads to gamble money there, then they're going to allow some form of boxing is my guess at later date.

So, just watched the Mayweather v Castillo fight and I had it 114-113 Castillo. Razor thin fight and the scorecards in favour of Mayweather were kinda silly. If you give it to him by a point or two ok, but 4 and 5 points. Nah, not for me. Really good fight. The ones that have really put it on Mayweather are the pressure fighters, nobody else has even had a real look in. You need to be on his grill for the  entirety of the 12 rounds

I would really like to continue looking over these fights but I think an advanced timetable will be good, until the footy is back, just another 3/4 fights until mid June

A short article on the debacle that was Naz v Barrera. No one will ever convince me Naz wouldnít have won if the fight had taken place pre 99 or if he had still been focused and training properly. However only has himself to blame and got what he deserved on the night. I just feel this is the overriding memory of Naz and people forget how brilliant he was

This is the reason that boxing is nowhere near the sport it was. If it wasnít bad enough having interim or intercontinental or international title holders now there are super world champions as well as regular. Boxing really is a joke when it comes to this kind of stuff

WBC have always loved fucking about with diamond belts or emeritus champions etc. But at least you could always say that the holder of the green belt was a legit champion. Not anymore I suppose.

Yep, if there was just one World champion for each weight then the best have to fight the best if they want to become Champ. Seems obvious to me but itís designed to almost do the opposite, all to make more money, mainly for those who donít need or deserve it.

The sad thing about all this is the way it's devalued the other titles. When we did the Cooper v Bugner rewatch it was great to see how seriously the British title used to be taken for example. Now that anyone can become a World Champion though it's kind of lost all meaning.

Yes I agree, it is a complete farce. One of the reasons why modern-day fighters will struggle to get compared to ATG old-timers is the continued propensity of fighters today to not fight the best in their division, but also the crazy number of titles available. Adrien Broner is a four-weight champion FFS  :butt :butt He was a good fighter when he was young but 30 years ago he probably wouldn't win one world title, let alone several. The level of relative inactivity is another reason. Once fighters hit the world title level, they come down to 1-2 fights a year.

We also have 'marinating' of fights, catchweights and other such bollocks. This all happened in the old days too, just not as often. I mean, there was no reason not to have seen Wilder versus Joshua, Stevenson vs Kovalev, Mayweather vs Pacman much earlier, GGG vs Canelo much earlier, and many other fights that could have been great but either didn't happen, or happened too late. Again, that happened throughout boxing history, just not as much. I could be letting nostalgia cloud my judgment of course  :D

Just imagine if Leonard, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, and Benitez all avoided one another, or Ali, Foreman, and Frazier? The thought depresses me!

Quote
Anthony Joshua has reached an agreement with Tyson Fury on a two-fight deal, says promoter Eddie Hearn.

Britain's rival champions have been holding talks over an undisputed world heavyweight title fight and have thrashed out initial terms for two blockbuster battles.

"We're making great progress," Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn exclusively told Sky Sports News. "There is still a lot to overcome. We are looking at venues and dates.

"We have the Dillian Whyte mandatory which is due before this fight.

"It's fair to say [Joshua and Fury] are in agreement regarding the financial terms of the fight.

"We've been talking to [Fury's management team] MTK, giving them the assurances from Joshua's side that all the details on the structure of the deal is approved from our side. And it is from Fury's side, as well.

"We're in a good place. It's fair to say that, in principle, both guys have agreed to that fight. Two fights.

"A lot to overcome in the meantime. We're moving in the right direction. I'm confident that both guys have giving their blessing for the fight to go ahead."

A lot of 'in principle' going on there ;D

So is it Joshua or Fury who has to fight Whyte first?  I thought he was mandatory for WBC.

Presumably they both have to get through Pulev/Wilder first as well.

Aye mate but it's good that both have agreed to financial terms. Pulev/Wilder will happen as they're the mandatories.

Remember I said Arum was saying to make Fury a "Franchise Champion"? Why do you think now? Pay off Dillion as he's the #1 WBC contender and Fury fight's AJ.   :D
