I wonder if anyone else is also interested in Harry Wilson. 15m seems higher than I'd expect, unless there has been some other club involved.

It's a bit of a conundrum with Harry. For us, he's nowhere near the team, and everyone (even Fordy, I suspect) knows that. Best quality backup to Mo is Mane, with Jota coming on to the left. Other backups at the club for the right-sided attacker that are better than Wilson, either in 433 or 4231, are Shaqiri, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino and Jota, and possibly Origi and Elliott.

So buying clubs would be expected to drive the price down, knowing this. And yet we need to be careful not to undervalue him. Harry's got a wand of a left foot, and in the right set-up will win games for his team with that weapon alone.

Joining those two lines of thought together, I'd have expected him to go for about 10m, with maybe a few more millions in add-ons. However if there is also another club interested, that might have pushed the price up.

You don't get six goals in your first 14 Premier League games if you're shit, though it is easy to fall off if you're young and playing in a basket case team that's in freefall.

To put it in perspective, £15 million is roughly half of what Ollie Watkins - someone who's never played in a top division - just went for, and a fair amount less than Callum Wilson, who scored one more goal in the same team as our Wilson as a number nine, was just bought for. That's not to say I think anyone will pay £25 million for him in the current climate, but it's not like he's some Jordon Ibe or Dominic Solanke-level player who's never showed an end product at professional level.

I don't think many people think that to be fair. We've sold some worse players than Wilson for similar or more - like Ibe or Solanke for example. It's more about the current climate than anything else.

15m is a good deal right, and I think in light of fans not being allowed back for another 6 months, very sensible. Holding on to someone who'll be 24 next year in hopes that the football economy is going to miraculously bounce back, so we can pocket potentially an extra 10m, seems rather risky.

I think it is more likely that we will keep one more player. It seems that Wilson is on his way to Burnley, so I expect that we will sell Grujic, Karius, Phillips and Larouci in the coming days. It will be interesting to see the developments with Origi and Brewster.

That'll be a big relief to Klopp. Draw dependent of course, but I'd expect to see some group games where we rest a couple of the front three and bring them on at half time (or vice versa, I suppose).

I don't think it'll change any transfer decisions though. If you assume the normal defence and attack, with a Fabinho, Thiago, Hendo midfield, we'll still struggle to pick a nine-man bench from the following: Adrian, Williams, Matip, Tsimikas, Milner, Wijnaldum, Keita, Jones, Chamberlain, Jota, Elliott, Minamino, Origi/Shaqiri. That's a lot of options.

Yes they did.

It was mentioned after he scored a great goal against Dortmund where some thought he should stay at Liverpool.
That pre season showed he didnt have enough to his game after from long shots,set pieces & finishing when he got a chance.

He isnt a bad player but is he definitely PL quality?
The jury is still out on that hence why we have not received many offers.

There were people who thought he wasn't good enough to be a regular player here, but even the people who were most adamant about that were still saying he'd become a good PL-level player.

We can nitpick about the definition of elite but by any measure, how 'elite' an engine does Olivier Giroud have, or Shaqiri for that matter? Would you say they've struggled in this league?

'a number of glaring deficiencies' may be a bit harsh but there was definitely significant doubts about Wilson. He's great on the ball and is a goalscoring threat. He's also great at set pieces. Physically there are a few Q marks about him but nothing major. His 2 major weakenesses from what I've seen are that he can drift out of games quite easily and off the ball he needs some work. I know Derby season ticket holders who said the same thing when he was in The Championship. None of them had him pinned down as their best player that season in the season he had for Derby (Tomori and, for some, Mount were viewed as better prospects). On here I thought people over estimated his performances for Derby that season because his numbers were very good. At the time I remember suggesting Maddison as a much better young player at that level and some people on here disagreed.

Given our forwards and midfielders can never be described as peripheral or poor off the ball, they were 2 weaknesses that Wilson had that made me think it was unlikely he'd ever be an option for us. He doesn't look to have improved those weaknesses significantly during his time at Bournemouth either. Plus with Trent, he'd probably not even take set pieces when on the pitch. Not being good enough to get in our 25 man squad doesn't mean you are a poor player though. Far from it. Wilson has shown he's good enough for The Championship and probably bottom half of the Premier League. He'll provide goals and danger from set pieces. That's worth +10M to a lot of clubs.

My concern with Harry Wilson is that he's the ultimate Match of the Day player. A bit like Shay Given.

Looks great when you watch the highlight reel of their games but in reality those highlights are covering up a number of flaws in their game. For Shay Given those flaws were that he was too small and generally shite at anything a keeper needed to do beyond shot stopping. For Harry Wilson, those flaws are his physicality and his tendency to be quite peripheral in most games (bar the highlight moments).

Find it hard to say he's better than Shaqiri (or not). Think it would be great to see what Wilson could do in our system alongside our players. However, I suspect if he'd have stayed this season he'd have been lucky to have played 200 mins in al comps by this point in the season.

I won’t get round to reeling anything off, there’s a whole Harry Wilson thread with people talking about his lack of pace, inconsistency, drifting out of games and not doing much apart from taking good set pieces and the odd open play goal for a good 2/3 years.
