If you're that far in the lead, and you're fitter and faster than the other runners, and you're currently running faster than they are...
But maybe you get cramp, pull a muscle, hit the wall.... (Has happened to me a couple of times - not from the lead of course😆) We are still a wee bit too far out from the finishing line for me.

Just keep running, forget the finish..........I do know what you mean though. You make sense, I’m still wary.

Hi Jake, if we ever win the league, as someone else posted, there will be a single parade that would take in to account progress of other competitions. So if we were in the FA Cup final it would take place on the Monday after that rather than the Monday after the last day of the season. That would also stretch to after the CL if we were still in that.

The Police rather than the club would have influence on the proceedings. The Council and the Police will already be considering the prospects of Liverpool having another successful season  ;D

Good points JC. We've booked a house for the 17th anyway just to enjoy the party - if we're in other finals thats a brucey bonus

Gotta say, Gini played sooo well during that whole festive season by the last game there i felt he was staggering on wooden legs and still miraculously getting it done somehow, putting in the yards soo many yards over Christmas ludicrous. I feared for him. Big part of that run for sure.

And now he looks rested and 100% ready to go again.

Nice. Gathering back our strength. I decided to watch back the spurs game and flicked on the stream and it was set where i left off, and Micheal Owen is going "We may be looking at one of the great teams of all time"  :lmao Thats a reasonably good sign, you'd have to say. Indicative that perhaps things are on the up.

Pushes Chips to the middle of the Table. "Im going ALL IN on Smug all the way through."  ;D Sorry Jinx guys

Jinxs dont bother me at this stage this is a matter of FATE. Its our time. The Evidence is Clear. This is a sweet sweet team.

I read yesterday a website that suggested that based on their system of calculations, the current Liverpool team is already the best Liverpool side of all timer and the fourth best club side of all time.  The scary thing was that if this team continues and finishes the season with the same run of results, we could possibly overtake probably all the 3 teams in front of us.

Highly dubious. We need to get trophies on the board first. We've got one big pot so far. All time great sides have a few more than that.

Yeah it's a case of finally winning it first and foremost. United fans would have been the same in the 92/93 run in after falling just short the year before and 26 years without a title. They didn't have a big gap but they had the likes of Norwich challenging them rather than a team who've got 198 points the previous two seasons.

Yeah, the league just has all of our heads falling off because we haven't won it in so long.

Before that Barca game, I was sound. Convinced we were going to do it, even with two of our front 3 out

But here we are in the league, 14 points clear with a game in hand & my arse is still flapping

On results based systems we're going to be high. We've had a historic 18 month run in the league and were good in it the 2 years before. Plus we won the champions league with another final.

How Liverpool Surpassed the Golden State Warriors

Thanks for that.
The record heard round the world! It's basically the best record of ANY top professional league-oriented, team sports ever! Amazing!
I found this very interesting:

Quote
If Liverpool were huge favorites in every match -- 75 percent to win, 18 percent to tie, and seven percent to lose -- then you’d still only expect them to win 20 of 21 games two percent of the time! “Factoring in that they've had several games with lower odds, and yea, it's quite impressive,” Lopez said.

And this:
Quote
It’s not just domestic dominance either. In an era where, from top to bottom, the Premier League is richer and should therefore be more competitive than ever before, Liverpool have broken the record for the best 21-game start in any of Europe’s top five leagues. Despite wild financial and competitive advantages at home, not even Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus, or Paris Saint-Germain have ever done this before.

"Weak league"?

Indeed. I am not particularly pessimistic, not at all in fact. Enjoying the ride, watching every game with an expectation they'll properly put to the sword whoever is the opposition. But I was 23 the last time we won the league. So yeah, quite a monkey to get off the back.

It is already different with this season's UCL. Hoping us to keep the title without a care in the world. For it belongs to us and not to anyone else  :wanker

I think people say the league is weak as there are no real challengers. We've been saying for months it's city we have to be wary of because Leicester won't last the distance. The usual contenders are shite. Arsenal , spurs ,Chelsea , united. Simply not able to put up a fight. Below is the league is competitive. Thing is though. It doesn't matter if one or two of them were good and were on league winning form (in terms of results) , we are still better than them. If united (hahaha) had won all of their league games except the one against us , they'd still only be level on points.

I remember during the Brendan 'We are Liverpool tra la la la la' league run, our lead at the top was minuscule and we were all WE'RE GOING TO FUCKING DO THIS and STOP BEING A BEDWETTER and WHERE'S YOUR BELIEF YOU SACK OF UNWASHED WOOL.

I was all in for it.

But now we have a lead of like 73 points or something (haven't checked) and the consensus is "Careful everyone, it's not over until it's mathematically impossible."

Which is true, and I wonder what's changed psychologically.

Probably the run under Rodgers you've mentioned.  A lot of us were sure it was going to happen but never did and that was really tough to take, so people are being more cautious now, even though were in a way better position.

Yeah. Simple as that, I suppose

There was something crazily intoxicating about that run though. I was like "If we just... believe hard enough, we can get over the line..." But this time's it's really business: "Our lead is fucking huge but x, y and x has to happen if we are to win, there's nothing we can do to change this outcome so let's set tight and celebrate in x games time."

I think it's partly the heartbreak of 2008/09 and 2013/14, and partly the 30-year wait for another title. It's so close, yet still so far away.

However, a lot of it is down to City - in 2013/14 they were W27 D5 L6, finishing on 86 points. In 2017/18 and 2018/19 their results were W32 D4 L2 (100 points), then W32, D2, L4 (98 points), including ridiculous winning runs that seemed impossible to match. Add in the Guardiola factor (despite his recent implosions), and that's where some of the caution and restraint will come from - however unlikely it seems that they can replicate that form again.

Like the entire club itself, the fanbase, generally, is far more focused and professional now.

We get giddy once things are done, rather than act like a 15 year old having his first fumble and popping his cork far too early.

Rather than going around telling people we are going to do this or that, we get things done now, revel in it and enjoy it as it happens, then talk about it later. I love it. It's the Liverpool way.

Was going to post something along these lines. City (more specifically Pep) has raised the standards so much in the last few years that we have all come to realise that to win the bloody thing we would need an almost perfect run-in. That leaves little room for error if any.

The fact that City has fallen off a cliff in respect of those said standards still hasn't sank in with most of us - team included. We're still operating under those principles and it's a good thing too.

I think in a way that was what was necessary. That team was bonkers, and almost required a bonkers crowd going a bit over the top as well.

Now there's mainly trust that the team are going to do a job, and that job is win the next game.

Who were the other 3 teams out of interest?

1. Barcelona 2012
2. Bayern 2014
3. Real Madrid 2014

You can say that again. Scolari's Chelsea are in the top ten...

Takes a few years to get up there though. Mourinho built them up, Scolari gets the credit here as the manager at that point.

I see. I notice their peak date is 23rd October 2008 - wasn't that around the time we ended their ridiculous home unbeaten record?

Our peak date, meanwhile, is next month. Let's hope it's not for the same reason.  ;D

I love it. It's the Liverpool way.
mmmmm, I wonder if you can think of any fans that do that......

The AFCON being held in January and February next year is massive news.

It’s certainly going to have an impact on Chasing the Title next season. So much for it being held during the summer from now on.

Isn't it about time they had it every four years rather than every two?

That's certainly one way of making it harder for us to win the league.  Maybe CAF didn't get the memo from FIFA, UEFA and the FA on that one?
