We lost the league because our head-to-heads with City meant 4 points to them and 1 point to us. Across the other 36 teams, we got more points than they did. You could say we lost the league by 11mm.

You could do that with any team we dropped points to.
We got 4 points against Arsenal, Everton, West Ham and Man United.
City got 6 points against each of them.

I don't think City do crave the Champions League. At least their fans don't. They have an issue with UEFA, they have trouble selling tickets - even more so than in the Prem. Their fans have not appreciated the romance and magic of European nights under the lights, at all.

Crave is the wrong word.  They feel entitled to it.

That 100 point season has completely gone to their heads.  They feel like trophies don't have to be fought for or earned anymore.  That's why they get their knickers in a twist when somebody actually has the temerity to challenge them.

They will never appreciate what a CL win means, not the way we do.  But they do have this twisted attitude where they feel they deserve it and should just be given one.

I don't think Chelsea fans truly appreciate their trophy haul either, but hey, maybe I'm wrong.  Now that they've fallen on hard times maybe their nostalgia will make them value the victories more than at the time.

I think the key difference this season is that when we opened up that lead last year, we knew City were powerful enough and committed enough to close the gap.  This year they look set to lose ground rather than gain it.  We went from shrinking to a 3 point lead to gaining an 8 point lead and their injuries are hampering them from going on a run.

They will get those players back and they will go on that run, and we will suffer setbacks along the way.  So we need to take advantage now to put as much clear water between us and them as we can.

Nah, we lost the league at Goodison. Everyone at Everton says so and they can't all be wrong

Stay eight points clear till the City game then beat them.
Eleven points ahead by the middle of November would be excellent.

I don't wanna derail the thread, but him (and Carra) seem to have that pundit style where you just blurt on and on seemingly saying anything to fill the allotted time.
It's like they're both making stuff up on the spot - you can almost feel the cogs whirring in their heads as they speak desperately trying to think of what they're gonna say in their next sentence. And annoyingly, football is like that. Everyone can have an opinion, and blurt on and on and on about it. Easy money.

8pts isn't unassailable, especially for a team like City, but to have it so early in the season is a big bonus. Remember last year when we started so well but City we're still neck and neck with us?!  I believe that's why we played safe in that home game versus them that ended 0-0.

That fixture in November this time is going to be massive! If we can win that and get to 11pts between us then I'll start to think it is finally going to be our year.

Even then, there will be an inevitable dip from us and City could claw it back to 3 or 4 pts but I think we'd both then go on a winning streak again at the end like last year but with us just holding out with that small points advantage.

Normally I would say the run in is the most important but this season I think it's the next 2 months. If we can keep winning upto  Christmas I think the pressure will get to them, January will allow them to buy defenders but we could be gone by then.

I'll be honest; it's very rare that I bother listening to the punditry, but from what I've seen I think you are right. They are ex-footballers, not professional presenters. There is an awful lot of time to fill on air, and they have to keep coming up with stuff.

It doesn't help with the likes of Neville that we have shot out of the blocks this season like a scalded cat while his beloved club are in crisis and the franchise he's relying on for snookers have stuttered a bit up to now. A lot of verbal diarrhoea is inevitable.

Also, they are employed to add to, or even create, the drama with their comments. Personally, I wish everyone would calm down. The season has only just started really.

Jamie Carragher is adamant Trent Alexander-Arnold has the technical ability to play in midfield for Liverpool and insist Trent is BETTER than Liverpool's current midfielders.

"It's actually a very, very important role now and you see that from Liverpool and how involved full-backs are now. "

"He probably has more touches than anyone; I'm not sure what the stats are, but I think full-backs probably touch the ball more than anyone."

** Where most of the fans BELIEVE, if the boss Klopp thinks Trent is better / suit in right back, then right back it is - not a midfield.

You can't simply... "Hey Trent, fuck it just play the midfield against United and win", I guess? Our boss, Klopp is not that simple.
Maybe I'm wrong though, not much money being paid like the pundits too, a dream job.

Their owners want the CL badly, Pep wants the CL and the fans do.

The reason Pep and the fans play down the CL is because they're failing in it and want people to be fooled that they don't care but it hurts them not winning it and they know that City will never be classed as an elite club until they win the CL.

For the last two season I felt they thought they would beat us and Spurs then go on to win it.

I agree with this. They are downplaying it to mask an inferiority complex against United and Us but deep down they really want to win it.

Their fear is that the likelihood of doing so is receding with the team aging and most of their stars suffering from wear and tear........and I suspect Guardiola is getting closer and closer to packing his bags.

The way I see it, we are doing all the right things, and we cannot ask any more from a Liverpool squad - in October.
We look so well balanced, and our key players from Alisson to VVD, Matip, Fabinho, Trent, Mane, Bobby and Salah are the best in their respective positions - and even better together.

City seem to have a problem at the back right now - they look vulnerable, and the more teams cotton on to this and have a proper go, the more points they will drop, before they can "moneybags" the issue in January.

We have to maximise our advantage between now and January. The only prediction I keep making is that City will finish with around 88 points this term; obviously 10 points down on their recent averages.

If we keep rotating well and keep everyone fit, we certainly have the right attitude and skills to finish the job. I would still like us to bring in one or two quality players in January, especially a forward who can offer more penetration and actual goals than a substitute like Adam Lallana (see; Leicester match).

The only shadow on our squad, as I see it, is the sheer of number of games I fear we might be asking Sadio, Mo, Trent and Robertson to complete this season, having had so much football all of them in the last 18 months.

Keep everyone fresh and the sky is the limit for Klopp's fantastic boys.

Oh shit yeah. They both have this habit of starting a sentence that seems like it's going somewhere interesting, getting about a third of the way through and then starting a new sentence. The new sentence is closely connected to the first sentence but goes the same way. After 5 sentences they are still to actually say anything but have now strayed from the original premise onto something glib and uninteresting.

I think they have plenty of young players to challenge consistently for both the title and champions league, but you're right about the ageing players - particularly the ones that have the mentality to help a team go all the way.

Kompany's gone, David Silva's off next summer, Fernandinho's 34, and although Aguero is still scoring he's 32 next year and will surely drop away soon. Those 4 for me are the core players that have been the foundation for City's success over the last 8 years more than anyone else. The fact that one's already gone, one's on his last season (and the other two won't be far behind) bodes well for us over the next few seasons considering many of our squad still have plenty of years left. I'd only put De Bruyne in the same bracket as those four in terms of both quality and leadership.

There are some players you can take out of a team and it instantly makes them weaker, and makes the players around them less effective. Although City feel this effect far less than others (due to their ridiculously deep and expensive squad), it will be interesting to see how the younger players cope when the more experienced leaders have all moved on. Although the likes of Bernardo Silva, Sterling, Laporte, Sane, etc are all very good players, they're not natural leaders in the same mould as the likes of Alisson, Robertson, Virgil, Henderson, Milner, and Mane (and pretty much the rest of our first team....).

I think over the next 2-3 seasons our mentality will give us the competitive advantage over their expensively assembled squad, which is why Klopp has been so important for us.
I've got OCD, but I prefer to call it CDO so it's in alphabetical order.

Where's Bob when you need a wise head around as talking about a title race in October ....hell even prior to March is a wee premature. Bit like discussing the need for kids on your second date....run like the clappers. Right now we are on a great run and just about cleared the first corner on a 400 meter race so in the next 8 games we could be licking our wounds & have City right on our ass again so keep the head down and dont worry about the finishing line until we can virtually trip over it. We are not exactly playing our best football right now and could easily be sitting on 20 points or less as we scrapped wins against Chelsea, Sheffield, Leicester and even Norwich probably deserved better than they got. Basically no need to praise ourselves too much yet as we are a long way off our best and we wont win the title on this form. City will raise their game and we have to be ready for that as have to make sure we at least take a share of the spoils from those two games. Anyhoo lets see where we stand around April as we have yet to prove we can stay in the lead when holding a nice advantage.

If City fail to retain their title they will point to their injuries and problems in defence as the reason.  To which I will respond, "yeah, shit happens".

There are any number of rival fans out there who will look for anything and everything to de-legitimise a Liverpool title win; and claiming it doesn't count because we didn't beat City when they were at their best will be top of the list.  And I wont give a single fuck.

Most of them will be aged 14 or younger or never been to a game in their lives

If City fail to retain their title they will point to their injuries and problems in defence as the reason.  To which I will respond, "yeah, shit happens".

There are any number of rival fans out there who will look for anything and everything to de-legitimise a Liverpool title win; and claiming it doesn't count because we didn't beat City when they were at their best will be top of the list.  And I wont give a single fuck.
Most of them will be aged 14 or younger or never been to a game in their lives - as you implied, no fucks should be given

I'm with this man. Very early days yet.

Momentum is key for us at the moment. City don't really have any and we have loads. That can all change if we lose to United and City win. United will be desperate to stop our winning run.  I honestly think if we win all our games up to the city game that they will drop points during that period, so the gap could be over 10 points by the time we meet.  Not sure how the next few games are scheduled but us playing before City and winning our games does seem to have an impact on them.

Basically we cannot give them a sniff of a chance.

I still think it’s too early to say we’ll win it, as the next month is crucial with United, Spurs and City coming up. Also we don’t know how the World Club Cup will affect our form although we do have favourable league fixtures that month.
Hopefully the wheels really come off at City and make the whole thing a lot easier.

I dont think we'll lose yo United but they're the last club I'd want to drop our first points to. I'd rather beat them and draw against spurs rather than the other way around.
Jürgen Klopp does not adapt to English Football.  English Football adapts to Jurgan Klopp.

Totally possible, like.

Turns out they didn't. Lost one and drew one. Fucking shite they are.

Rangers (18 games) in 1899
Ferencvaros (22 games) in 1932

So yeah, a team has won all their league games in one season.

Looking at this block of games before the next international break, I hope everyone at the club has cottoned on that there's a real opportunity to stamp our throat on City and kill them off.

Big, big ask of course, but win our next four league games and we'd have at least an 11-point lead. The midweek fixtures between the games are kind to us. Genk, Arsenal in the League Cup, before Genk again. Now Genk away probably won't be a barrel of laughs, but there's an argument for Klopp to say to his first XI forget about the cups for now, you're pretty much playing once a week in the league. We'd probably have to rotate a few into each match, sure, but the general point is there.

City's run after they play us is horrible: Chelsea, Burnley & Newcastle away, United, Arsenal, Leicester, Wolves.  Ours is a whole lot easier in comparison, CWC distraction notwithstanding. I could only see that hypothetical lead extending.

One game at a time and all that.....
Better than the Invincibles.
Better than Mourinho's Chelsea.
Better than the fabled Man Utd treble team.

I'm alright with that.
