What do people in here think of James Blake? Heís released four albums each receiving critical acclaim and Iíve listened to a few of them out of curiosity but he just doesnít do it for me.

He seems to be a darling to all the US rappers and R&B singers.

Don't like him.

Saw him at Green Man a few years back, great sub bass sounds but that was it.

Was the worst thing about the Connan Mockasin album last year too, his guest spot. Was OK but preferred all the rest of the LP.

Just found out that Michael Chapman, Cass McCombs, and Bob Mould all release albums this Friday. 2019 hasn't really done much for me musically thus far (in all its five long weeks), but shit might just be about to get real.

The new Beirut is out. Never got into them apart from the odd singles that I had on repeat. It's a nice album. He possesses this rare talent of conjuring melancholy attached to an obscure geographical place you never been, but still feel the vibes from it. Bratislava is basically a boring central European town, but if you've never been there and listen to that song, it's magical. Same with Gallipoli from this album; it sounds like a romanticized gypsy version of an Antonioni film but it's probably a shit tourist town in south west Italy.

I had a listen to this today. It was nice. Not really got into any of their full albums, though some of the singles have been great - Elephant Gun and Gibraltar in particular.

Really liking the Michael Chapman, and the Mercury Rev one (double especially the Hope Sandoval track).

See Pitchfork has hammered the Mercury Rev LP, good to see me getting ever less in common with their self-important taste curation nonsense. If only I could stop clicking on their bloody website, I could save up to four minutes a day.

Oh and the new Deer Tick album is a right conundrum. Unnecessary covers, lovely reworkings of songs from their last one, and a couple of newies, including the excellent instrumental 'Memphis Chair'.

The Delines gig on Wednesday was really special. It was really uplifting and emotional.

The lead singer was hit by a car about 3 years ago - she is still walking with a stick and a bit unsteady on feet so lovely to see the recovery. The band are so tight and conformable with each other.

Brilliant night.  :)

Any Jessica Pratt fans out there? New one sounds strong.

Think Cass's newy might be a grower, which are often the best albums...

She's quality, cheers. Reminds me of Dr Octagon and Cannibal Ox. Never heard of her either, but turns she's out on Sage Francis' digital imprint. Used to love his stuff, until he went all emo hop and that. I could really get into this Yugen Blakrok lass though. Good shout sir.

Third listen now, and it's clicked. So lovely.

New Bob Mould, 'Sunshine Rock' is absolutely brilliant, too. Happy Bob! Seeing him in Manchester next month. These songs will work so well live.

Always happy to see Idlewild crop up with new music, given that I always wonder if it might be the last time.  Their second record, 100 Broken Windows probably stands as my favourite album.

Their 8th record, Interview Music is due out on 5th April, led by new single 'Dream Variations': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6QmSetpXGI

Alonso the Assassin (aka Mr Simon) visited on Thursday. We saw Low in Brighton on Thursday and Tim Burgess in Worthing on Friday.

Words cannot do the Low gig justice. A perfect setting, a snowy night and just a tremendous setlist. It blew me away in all honesty. Burgess was good fun as always and capped a nice two days.

My essential 2019 listening so far is: Steve Gunn, The Delines, SVE and Deerhunter . I like the Better Oblivion Community Centre album but need to spend more time with it.

I am also really into Wooden Shjips last record and digging into their back catalogue now.

Don't want to be boring but these are my top albums for January as well haha.

The Steve Gunn album is maybe not quite as good as his previous two but it's great nonetheless.

Cass McCombs album smashing all comers in my house. It's basically the album I really wanted from him right now.

William Tyler album is also fantastic.

Still digesting the Steve Gunn.

Nick put me on to Modern Nature, check it out:

Think 'A Sailor's Life' by Fairport Convention done by skinny indie blokes. It's great.

And millions more to listen to as well - Spellling LP on Sacred Bones sounded good on first listen.

I read the NYT article just before bed last night.  The weight of the allegations, and the implied evidence, is compelling.  Feeling utterly hollowed-out today - I took to Adams' music arond the time of Demolition in 2002 and have held it close since.  He's pretty much soundtracked two thirds of my life, and it's fair to say his words & music have helped me navigate some challenging times over the years.  Devastating news.

100%. His music has had such a profound effect on my me throughout the past 18 years or so. I remember around 2005 having this drunken debate about me thinking Ryan Adams was better than Dylan! That's how highly I regarded him. I was only listening to Cold Roses the other day and getting so excited to hear his three albums this year and going to see him live later this year.

I felt devasted reading the story this morning

That might be the least surprising thing I've heard.  A female friend of mine had an unpleasant encounter with him in Dublin years ago, which she described as sustained drunken harassment.  Comes across as a major asshat in Meet Me in the Bathroom too.

The grooming of the underage musician takes it to an altogether different level though.

Keeping half on eye on social media during the autumn, it was clear he was in a difficult place personally (I guess perhaps now we can see why) but he's come out upbeat & enthusiastic about the upcoming releases and tour this year (I too have tickets for shows in the spring) during the last month or so.

Totally frivolous compared to more internal feelings - and completely irrelevant compared to the victims in this situation - but I've got framed tour posters from 2005 on my walls, my avatars on Twitter, WhatsApp, and even on here were all Adams logos/posters images, and for a couple of years I've been a right mood in the morning of a day off away from booking in to get a tattoo of the rose logo.

Feels like such a punch in the gut.

It doesn't shock me, simply because he had a reputation as someone who had constant anger issues, just like Weinstein did. Even putting aside the public feuds with other musicians and the whole Bryan Adams saga, this is the same Ryan Adams who used to habitually leave abusive and occasionally threatening messages on journalists' home voicemails. I always assumed that and other things were down to him having a massive drug habit, but maybe that was just his personality.

Well shit, I'm faintly relieved I never really liked Ryan Adams' stuff now. Much better Americana out there.

In all seriousness (and I was semi-serious actually, thought he had a good way with a tune but his lyrics were pretty shite from what I heard), he's had reasonably well documented anger and depressive issues in the past I think - not saying this is an excuse at all, but it's no real surprise. That thing with the underage lass though, that's proper messed up. Fuck him, if that's how it actually went down.
