I find it weird and a bit of a shame.
I was thinking about this a bit and I think itís down to lack of national pride, there isnít an ďEnglishĒ passport, only a British one. For that reason I think we should just have a British FA like they had for the Olympics.

I've got a feeling that Origi is the real deal, from a couple of games I watched but mainly his interviews there seems to be something about him.

I think the only time Iíve got excited about England was when Michael Owen broke into the team and scored that wonder goal against Argentina. And that had nothing to do with England and everything to do with Liverpool FC.   I leapt off the sofa and jumped around the room until the pain reminded me I had my foot in plaster.

Oh and the 5-1 against Germany a few years later, ditto all about LFC.

Basically, good luck in the World Cup England Henderson and TAA

It's a little known fact that Ruben Loftus-Cheek sat on the Cabinet sub-committee tasked with planning for the towing of Merseyside into the Irish Sea, later abandoned.  Coincidentally, Kieron Trippier was a Senior Civil Servant, also working on that project.

Both Danny Rose and Marcus Rashford were key figures in the Thatcherite free market think tank 'Centre for Policy Studies' whose stated aim was to raise unemployment beyond 65%.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was subject to a banning order after trashing a cafe in Milan during the 1980 European Championship, and Jordan Henderson was a member of the notorious 'Inter City Firm'.

Bread was a shocking 80s sit-com based on pureile humour and unacceptable stereotypes.  Wait till you see 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum', 'In Sickness and In Health' and 'Only Fools and Horses', they are going to blow your mind.  Kyle Walker was the Producer of a number of episodes of 'It Ain't Half Hot Mum' and Harry Maguire was an extra in 'Desmonds'.

I don't understand the concept of not supporting england, it's the country we live in afterall..

don't get me wrong, i would much rather see LFC win the Champions league or premier league over England winning the world cup. But i would still love to see England win the big one, imagine the celebration across the nation.

Basically, i'll support england, but won't be bummed (for long) when they go out.

I loathe everything to do with the England set-up and don't support them in any way. Can't stand the moronic Ingurland mentality either.

I hope the Liverpool players involved do well, but that's as far as my interest goes.

Same as me.

Might get half a days flexi update from work if they get in the finals though  :P

Ingurland are just the London Media & FA united.

Can't stand 'em. Can't stand their songs, their fans, most of the players, the Queen or that awful band that always follows them.

I always enjoy watching them get beaten, especially by the Germans or the South Americans. I especially enjoy the media meltdown if old johnny foreigner has cheated in some way.

Perfect summer for me would be England v Uruguay quarter/semi final with Suarez hand-balling the winner into the net after getting away with biting Harry Kane.

The main reason I don't want England to win the world cup. Millions of chavy, xenophobic, drunken fools causing mayhem everywhere. The media talking of nothing else for months to come.

I support England when they're playing because I was born here - so that's the team allocated to me. But I fundamentally don't give much of a shit and care far more for Liverpool than England.

But, if you gave me the choice between England winning world cup or Liverpool finishing top 4, that may be a difficult choice but I'd still prioritise Liverpool and probably choose top 4. In the end, it's Liverpool I love and support. Not England.

I always used to follow the English team in international tournaments when our players were involved.
Mainly due to the fact that Iceland was still clubbing seals and not very good at footy, but we are now in our second tournament in a row so England can fuck off. :)

It's become trendy to hate the England national team, which is a bit sad. But understandable considering the sheer number of wankers that support England singing their fucking colonial rule Britannia shite, the FA being wankers, and our £200k per week players getting broken on England duty playing friendlies against Namibia the week before a Champions league game.

I can understand not caring much, but actively hoping your national team fails is bizarre to me. Very sad reflection of the way the UK is going now, if you don't hate your country you're practically a UKIP voter in a lot of people's eyes.

It's a complicated situation in the UK yes - I have no loyalty to England though - my passport says 'British' - my upbringing is Liverpudlian - I currently live abroad, as I don't feel welcome in my own country any longer following all the crap around Brexit - and if the Brexit situation causes me to rethink where my company is based and where I pay my taxes, then so be it. There is currently no realistic political party that appears to hold the same values and desired outcomes I do, so where should my loyalty lie?

When you grow up in a disenfranchised diaspora it's perfectly understandable to push back against the status quo that seeks to fuck you over at every turn - and some of that backlash is understandably (note, I don't say :justifiably") directed back towards Engerlund FC and all the fucking hype that surrounds it from mainstream media to crass commercialism to also just not wishing to be tainted by association either. There are many who firmly disassociate themselves from all that malarky and there are perfectly understandable reasons for doing so.

Personally though I don't seek to belittle any Liverpool FC supporters who wish the England team well. That's their prerogative. Nor will I label them as UKIP-voting twats - not all of them are - some of them? Sure. But not all. And there will be thousands of people in Liverpool pubs joining in with the singing and the cheering and probably the inevitable disappointment that goes with serial failure. Fair enough, "Knock yourselves out, lads!" is what I feel - and in some cases they do - and sometimes it turns ugly and they seek to knock others out too - but you get that element everywhere.......

But on a Liverpool FC-supporting forum, I'll freely express my view that Engerlund FC and any knuckle-dragging, mouth-breathing fuckwits that buy into the hype can get stuffed :wave Those who don't fall into that category and still feel a sense of pride in their national team and wish them well, feel free :wave

I'll support them and watch the matches. There's a good national togetherness when the big tournaments come by. The incessant friendlies and shite qualifying matches against Andorra and San Marino, that interrupt the flow of domestic football...  it's easy to not be arsed and for a resentment to grow. But when the tournaments come by it's great.

That said, I don't get pissed off or ecstatic or angry or much of any emotion if England win/lose/draw or get a penalty or a bad refereeing decision etc. It's just whatever.

People wanting their country to fail is weird imo.

When England go out I'll support Egypt or whoever else has one of our Liverpool boys. The passion on display at world cups is the best thing. It means so much to most other nations and every player

Completely agree mate. Iím a ďBritish AsianĒ guy born in Liverpool, and I support England (although I have a very soft spot for the Indian football team ... An amazing team indeed lol ... gobshites do nothing for the stereotype that those originating from south east Asia canít kick a ball). I mean, Iíve had a horrible time on the past 2 occasions I went to an England game (last one i went to was against Turkey in Stadoum of light around early 2000ís) and it really was a bad experience that put me off going to England matches. Lots of racism and full of knuckleheads. But there were plenty of friendly and good England supporters there too - they were the majority and that should not be forgotten. I also think the rule Britannia nonsense has reduced - that winds me up silly!

But to actively want England to lose. I just donít get it. Why would one expend so much energy wanting their own country to lose. At least be neutral.

Not arsed about England. Liked internationals when I was a kid, Euro 96 etc. but not been arsed for years, how could I support a side with John Arsehole Terry as captain?

Will watch the games (as many as I can, not focused on England particularly) and I quite like the wasting-time-at-work game that is picking your own England team, but I'll not be arsed when they inevitably get knocked out in the second round.

Are you from Liverpool?

A lot of this stems from people who we're in and around Liverpool in the 1980's. The neglect of the city from a political perspective, the constant sniping and stereotyping by people and the media from around the country. There's loads of reasons why Liverpool supporters of a certain age from Liverpool would have no affection for England and a symbol of England, in the national football team. Apart from that Liverpool is one of the most left wing cities in the country. England have also had a vocal, but minor, right wing element associated with them. It's easy to see why people from Liverpool wouldn't align with the ethos of England football team and it's supporters.

If you aren't from Liverpool (or of a certain age) then it might be really difficult to get you head around why there's a general apathy towards England (IMHO).

Agreed - there's definitely a degree of socio-politic-geographical influence that impacts most significantly on people of a certain age group too. It's understandable. Doesn't necessarily make me any more right or wrong than another person - I get why some would consider the standpoint of some of us as "weird" - and that's okay too. I *am* weird ;)

Dont believe half of it myself, I have lived in Liverpool all my life and people do get excited about England - and yes that includes Liverpool supporters. Italia 90 when Gazza nearly got us the final was the only time I have really been excited about England, pissed my self laughing when Iceland knock us out though. Never been to an England game so cant speak first hand about the fans but have been to loads of Liverpool games around the world and you know what ? We have some right knobhead fans, more than many on here would have you believe.

Not bothered about them really. Have been to a couple of England games at Wembley because my lad wanted to go but couldn't get excited about it.

I like our players to do well but we have lads playing for a few different countries so want them all to do well. I want them to come back uninjured though and not tapped up by their team-mates at other clubs.

I'm not from Liverpool. I can completely understand the apathy towards England, just not the resentment... like actually willing the national team to fail, or getting a boner when they fall flat on their face, as opposed to just not caring what they do. Plenty of cities in the UK have negative stereotypes from others in the country. And I think England is more than its government or politics. Any national football team will have a vocal right-wing group of fans since nationalists and national-anything are two peas in a pod

I don't see one single person in this thread claiming to be a "better" Liverpool fan. That seems like your projection. And you have the right to call it nonsense, that's fine, but be careful with the uberfan accusations, that's not acceptable.

If you want to be a Liverpool fan, you have to really hate England.
I do.
How much?
Lots.
Right, you're in.

I'm half Scottish and get great pleasure watching England lose at major tournaments.

I don't want to sound like a twat but a lot of that above is bollocks and comes across like you have very little experience of Liverpool as a city.

Maybe it's an age thing for me or an up bringing thing. But supporting England would not be on my radar. It's nothing about proving I'm the biggest Liverpool supporter around either. I know a lot of people, but certainly not everyone, feels the same within Liverpool. That's my experience anyway.

Wherever you are from in the country I'd suggest it's different. My experience of living in various places are that it's probably the South East (not necessarily London), Yorkshire and South West that seem the most patriotic and into England football team. Somewhere like Manchester seemed more aligned with Liverpool.

The other aspect here is that all my mates support Liverpool. I go the game with them, watch games on the TV with them and have had amazing experiences following Liverpool and watching us collect trophies. We have that shared experience. For people in other parts of the country you could easily have a group of mates who support completely different club teams. Supporting England is the only time they can support the same team. I can understand why that would be an important thing and why they'd cherish this. I've nothing against others supporting England but Liverpool fans not  from Liverpool should try and understand why there may be resentment or apathy towards the national team from fans that come from Liverpool
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

There was a time of course when supporting England was almost the same as supporting Liverpool. I think in the late 70's we had about 7 or 8 players in the team for a few matches.
