Bathroom Fitting Companies
« on: October 8, 2011, 01:19:31 pm »
Can anyone recommend a bathroom design / fitting company in Liverpool or surrounding areas that they've used and did a really good job without billing you for Greece's national debt?

Any suggestions appreciated

I dont know any  - but I think we should have a thread in the Liverpool section where
people can ask for phone numbers (PM them rather than post) of reliable builders etc. that
they have used and can vouch for.

We've just finished ours and it was a comlete rip out and rebuild walls, ceiling the lot! , my advice is depending on your budget don't buy expensive tiles or that actual furniture and concentrate on the fiittings which give the 'quality' to the finished job....what size is the room?...ours is quite small 2m x 2m...so we had to work hard to maximise space e.g. we chose a shallow sink and whilst intially desired a 'wet room' the cost scuppered that...then it was shower only...or bath/shower we chose the latter becouse it was cheaper and with a kid , he still wants a bath!..we got most of our stuff from Wicks and I have to say the end job looks top notch!.......as for the builder, I dont think I would recommend cos we did have some issues.

Cheers FB.  That's one of the decisions we're pondering at the mo, we have a plumber who can do most of the work but we would effectively have to plan and design it ourselves and get all the stuff (which it sounds like you did).  I was wanting to get a quote for a proper bathroom company to come in and do the whole thing, to see how much that would be as it seems much easier!

Think the space is about 4m x 2m and it will be a complete rip out and start again job.

My advice would be to rip it all out yourself. Get your plumber to cap the pipes off if your not confident doing it yourself... save yourself a few quid straight off.

If in doubt with the potential quality of work being carried out http://www.trustatrader.com/

If you get a good local company its worth its weight in gold ( we had one for the kitchen)...the quote we got from local bathroom companies where over twice what we ended up paying...think it came to around £5K ( builder plus materials and suite)....btw what condition is your hall and landing in?...cos no matter what they say, it will get coverd in shit and plaster dust, also the bathroom was out of action for about 3 weeks.

I can recommend Wicks btw ...only went in there on the off chance and it was much better than the others...we went with an all white bathroom with charcoal grey floor tiles, with chrome fiitings...getting colour with towels etc...

Oh! and dont do the 'brick bond' effect with tiles , every fucker does that now and it gives the effect of a public loo!

The hall is a tip, we've deliberately left it until after the bathroom.  Cheers for the tip mate, will check out Wickes this week

5 grand for a 2x2 bathroom? Seems a bit excessive that mate. And out of action for 3 weeks? :o

I had my bathroom done a year ago.Bought bath, toilet, semi ped sink and mira shower online.
Bought the tiles ,flooring, heated towel rail and spotlighting myself and got someone in to rip out and
do the work,he was a bit disorganised but got job done in about 10 days.
The lot came in at 2 grand, there is a website you can go on and ask for quotes and get reviews of local tradesmen.
Yes they do make a mess but grin and bear it.

Not had a recommendation for a design and fit company but we are waiting for a quote from our regular plumber who says he can do the complete job (bringing in tilers etc as required) if we buy all the fittings and tiles and stuff.  Just waiting for his quote and a date when he can do it.  Then we'll have to get ourselves down to Wickes.

Not going to be cheap though as we're going to have the chimney breast taken out to make a bit more space

Was in Wickes yesterday and they had a display on the way out showing a complete bathroom makeover ( suite, tiles, fittings, labour ...the lot) for just under 3 grand. Looked alright although the suite was less than 500 quid, labour costs seemed to account for at least half of it.

Yeah, think that's usually the case, we're tentatively budgeting £3k-4k for the labour. With the suite and tiles on top of that.
