Im getting public torrent sites like piratebay recommending to hide my IP with a VPN.
Is this really necessary and if so from where is it best to hide my VPN?  What do I have to exactly do if anybody knows?

If you're torrenting, you should definitely be using a VPN to hide your traffic, and prevent you getting a warning letter from your ISP.

I use PrivateInternetAccess.com, along with quite a few other people on here

Lads anyone using utorrent or even qbittorent with IPT? Have my sister using my settings (that work perfectly for me) on her own PC and all she gets is the red icon on her network connection on the torrent client.

When I say settings, just tell me what you have ticked or unticked on DHT network tab, NAT port mapping, UPnP one etc. She has opened a port for utorrent and qbit.

I've only un - ticked dht.

How many posts above is this....lazy, la.  ;D This is the one I use and always recommend. Easy to set up and has a wide selection of countries to pick from....cheap too.

So I've had an email from my isp telling me that somebody has used my broadband to download copyrighted material....so it looks like the free vpn you get with the opera browser is not that good at disguising an address.

That'll cover you downloading the .torrent file, such as getting you onto a blocked site like Pirate Bay, but won't cover the actual downloading using your Torrent application.

I see. So what's the best way to get way to round it? Will a paid for vpn be a solution? Have thought about getting a firestick and putting those streaming apps on it.

Yeah, one that covers all of your internet traffic on the device you're using to download. The Opera VPN is great for accessing blocked sites, but it only covers the browser traffic.

For a reliable VPN that covers all of your traffic (such as Torrent downloading and seeding) you'll probably want a paid one. There might be free ones but the speed is probably a lot lower than optimal for downloading.
