sorry not that familiar with them. Are they ethernet or wireless?

Both mate, some are just ethernet but ones with both choices are not much more expensive.

Yuck i have the 100 Mb package as well, that upload is shockingly bad.

When i'm in California for Spring /Summer i get 300mb and upload over 100mb on Comcast Xfinity.

In all seriousness, is there any genuine advantage to having broadband above 100mbps?

Moving into my own place soon, and due to it's location, these guys offer the best speeds etc.

Anyone used them? Are they reliable? Are they good?

Any help appreciated. :)

There are a couple of users in that thread that use them, looks like they receive decent speeds.

Give me a PM and will refer you as you'll get a free month and so will I  ;D

Someone who's tech savvy.. the house i'm moving into, the woman who lived there managed to get Fibre Optic internet with BT in a area that generally doesn't have fibre optic. Does that mean this house has got it for good and I can choose a different provider if I wish to?

I don't really know what fibre optic is only that your Internet is a lot quicker thought maybe it was only tied to one provider if set up with them. Thanks!

It will mean fibre optic is to the local phone exchange, so all the houses from that exchange will be able to get fibre optic (from any provider).

It's easy to check on any of the providers website whether they will be able to provide Fibre or not, just enter the address. Should tell you if it is is FTTC as CraigDS mentions or FTTP (Fibre to the Premises).

Out of interest what do you do that led you to think it was worth paying the extra for such fast internet? I only ask because I moved from Virgin 200mb to BT Infinity 52mb, it might be slower but itís still more than quick enough for gaming and I can actually have more than one device using the network at the same time without it being crippled which happened with Virgin.

The price difference given the offer I got was not much between the 1GB and 100mb speeds, so just opted for the faster one.

Fair enough, I was under the impression it was like £50+ per month but I hadnít checked

Who would you guys recommend as a provider?

Currently with EE and getting a download speed of 76mbs. That's more than enough for what I use the internet for. Unfortunately I can't get Virgin in the area and EE are usually a bit up and down. Works great for about 3 weeks then my speed will drop right down to about 5mbs and sometimes restarting the router fixes it but other times I need to wait a day or so for it to get back up to speed.

Think I'll move away from them. Options are Sky or BT, also have plusnet and talktalk who can offer around 70mbs.

Yeah they ran all the checks and sent me out a new router at one point which temporarily fixed the problem but it started happening again after receiving the new router.

I've been using talktalk for the past year and it has been just as good/reliable as BT was,at a loss as to why it always comes out bottom in the satisfaction tables. You can get unlimited 63mb for just £25 a month and if you call them they will often throw extra phone packages in for free.

Just had Threeís 4g modem delivered after getting sick of waiting for Openreach to upgrade the local boxes to fibre. Weíve got excellent 4g signal so assumed the speeds would be good but Iím getting in excess of 50mb/s most days/nights and late at night Iím achieving in excess of 80mb/s which is such a relief when weíve had to suffer 1-2mb/s for the past three years since we moved house.

Highly recommend it as an option for people who are in the strange position of having awful copper internet combined with healthy signal. Nice thing is, is that itís portable so was able to take it to mumís house where there isnít internet and still do work and stream Netflix on the laptop etc.

Highly recommended.

Ps. Upload speeds are never lower than 20mb/s so great if you are interested in streaming/video conferencing.

Went for the £24 p/m option which comes with a Huawei AI Cube Router which has an inbuilt Wireless speaker and Alexa and supports 64 devices - and also supports 4G+. It's "fair use" unlimited but I've used 379gb this month so far and not had any slowdowns or restrictions applied. That said, I'm doing normal things like Spotify streaming in Ultra quality and lots of Sky Go and Netflix. They may be a little more picky if that bandwidth was going on torrents, who knows.

Means we can ditch the landline, so it's only really costing us a net £5 p/m. You can get a £20 a month option which gives an inferior router that doesn't support 4G+ (and thus the fibre-like speeds).

Do have a look at it - it's an absolute piece of piss to setup too. Literally put the sim in, wait 60 seconds, the lights flash a bit then it starts working.

I've made fairly complex network around the house using the router, netgear 5-way switches and powerline extenders, so that every device in the house that can take wired ethernet now has it and every room has strong wifi signal and it all works like a charm.
