Upgraded to Mojave on my late-2015 iMac 5k (upgraded to an i7) - and it feels a bit sluggish. Random crashes here and there, and certainly more unresponsive app occurrences since I bought it.  It's been through El Capitan, Sierra & High Sierra, and this is the slowest it's felt.

Tempted to downgrade here.

I've got the retina iMac and since the upgrade it's been absolutely fine - no crashes, I'd look at what apps are causing the crashes.

Especially if you've had those apps for yeeeeeeaaaaars...also check you have the latest versions thereof and whether they're still supported.

It does look like a return to form but the pricing is disappointing. At a few hundred more expensive than the base model itís replacing it puts it head to head with some seriously equipped PC ultrabooks and also the entry level MBPs.

Yeah, good shout on the MBP, not so much on the PC - just doesn't compare

I've had my current one for 5 years, it cost ~£1100, this one is a bit more but if I get the same out of it I can't complain one bit.

Ok, upgraded to Mojave and it's the ugliest Mac OS I've ever seen.
Sweet ghost of Steve Jobs - the fuck is happening with their once lauded design department.
Dark mode is hideous, especially in Finder, lock screen is an absolute abomination with 'straight outta 90's' drop shadows. App store app, while it was in dire need of redesign, is now just a copy of the mobile App store. Shitty discrepancies in font sizes and different design approaches all over the os. Just a complete shambles and mess - which really speaks about how many fucks they give about their Mac user base these days.

Got a macbook pro through work. Cost 2.5k. Would never buy one myself. Itís ok, but I have issues with keys on the keyboard after less than a year. Only use the touchbar for answering phone calls on the mac

The reason I just came in here was to say that messages keep popping up on my imac screen asking me to upgrade to Mojave.  I was gonna ask if I should go ahead and do it and have peeps had anny problems/issues with it.

One real technical issue I have had is that the Google Drive app did not work, so I had to move to their new app which of course decided to re-sync everything again - thus costing me half a day. It works, if that is your concern - it is just nowhere near as polished as Mac Os releases used to be.

China :wave No really, there are 'copies' out there on places like Amazon that do the same job. Alternatively, any 2nd hand shops out there selling reconditioned macs? If you're anywhere near Milton Keynes, I can recommend somewhere.

If you move your Mouse or fingers, on a track pad, up and down or side to side very quickly your cursor will enlarge and be visible again.

Activate  -: shake mouse pointer to locate. System preferences, accessibility, display.

What are you doing when it disappears? You might have the sensitivity/tracking settings up too high.

System Preferences > Trackpad > Tracking speed (slide bar setting)

Well it's not going to be an issue where the mouse knows which website you're on or which program you're running ;)  Check that tracking speed setting, just in case......

If anyone happens to experience problems with Sierra/Mojave and memory, check out Omnidisk Sweeper. I upgraded to Mojave and all of a sudden something ate up 200GB of hard drive memory. I couldn't identify what file. It was under System. After using the program, I was able to locate and delete a huge, single file and got my memory back. It was related to Steam. Took me the best part of last weekend to solve it.

I bought one (late 2008 Macbook) for £20 from work to get better acquainted with OSX. It's sat on a shelf for about 3 years... but I've just successfully installed Windows onto it so it might now actually get some use.

And I can still sit in a cafť looking like a total poser, so that's something I guess?

What's the point if you're installing Windows on it really?
OSX is a much better, more stable and user friendly OS in my humble opinion.

I wouldn't claim one is inherently better than the other, but I've been a Windows user (and that includes professionally, as in running servers etc) for over 20 years now, and I've never been able to really get into OSX (and I'm the appointed Apple specialist at my school, after being sent on a 4 day 'how to use OSX' course). I don't have any other Apple devices, I don't have an iTunes account, I'm just not invested in any of it.

I will accept that the hardware is pretty nice and well made though, I doubt I could have picked up an 11 year old Windows laptop (that has at one time in its life served in a classroom environment) and got it working and feeling quite so nippy (I have put an SSD in which helps). I guess a lot of that is why you pay 3-4 times the prices in the first place.

Truthfully I was just testing out the process as we're going to be decommissioning some more Apple stuff soon and there's a chance of getting a 2012 iMac, which would be so much more useful to me with an OS I know how to use on it.

Congrats.

Thanks! It was pretty easily actually, and I can't wait for the opportunity to do it on more recent, powerful kit.

Although I am down one paperweight now, which is a new problem.

Not a picture for the squeamish:

It does actually have a crack in the glass. but it doesn't affect operation as the LCD panel is fine.

Next on the list is 2010 Mac Pro but that won't be possible until summer at least...

Moral of the story - don't bring a Mac to me to repair!
