With respect, that has absolutely nothing to do with my original point which was in reference to the sub-£500 entry-level camera market with their nasty kit lenses. Even at the higher end it can make you pause for thought. We're selling our Fuji XT2 and two lenses (nearly £2k worth of kit) that we bought for personal work (only last August) because our iPhone Xs are doing what we bought it for.

We have half a dozen film cameras, amazing MF and AF glass, high end DSLRs and the latest mirrorless tech, but for non-professional jobs, the iPhone is everything I (and I imagine 99% of people) need for taking great photos. It even negates the need to have a laptop with dedicated editing software - unlike pretty much every DSLR, you can shoot, edit, upload or print all from one device.

Anyway, back to the best photo you've taken yourself...

Sure, I just don't agree that "most situations" excludes absolutely anything where you want a wide or telephoto lens, or light modifiers of any kind.

Wouldn't be any use for most of my work.

I had my Nikon D3200 stolen whilst traveling and was thinking of upgradding to the D5300. Anyone own(ed) it have any insight on it? Also, I now only have one 35mm lense should I consider changing brands? I was happy with the camera but bought because it was the highly recommended entry level camera.

Here are two photos from Guatemala and Chile

Work being the key word. I'm talking about beginners and amateurs, not pros. Those that rarely switch a camera to M. For my work I'm using £2k bodies with £1k+ lenses, for non-work it's iphone.

Nice pix. That's the camera I have - and thejbs will confirm I have no fucking clue how to use it!!!!!!!!!!!! I also have a nice Tamron lens.

If I don't find the motivation to learn how to use either, you're welcome to consider it ;)

Not quite sure what went wrong with this one, possibly underexposed and over developed, but I kinda like how it turned out.

Baring the rocks and moon photo I had all the photos planned in my head or atleast an idea of what I wanted to shoot before I went out the milkyway one was a hopeful shot I had checked where it ran in the sky and hoped for a clear night when we where on a 3 night family camping trip.. got lucky the weather in Wales is never on my side

Very rarely I just go out and randomly get a decent photo, I'll have something in my head in a location and I'll persist till I get what I wanted there example this was 6-9 trips to Anglesey to get this shot

Technically excellent photo. Great editing. Myself I'm awful when it comes to gear and stats and tech - most of my stuff is terrible in this way.

I'm wondering though, wouldn't you get much more out of this if the lighthouse was offset? Placing an object dead center is risking making it a bit obvious and not super interesting. In composition the rule of 3 usually works.

I love the fact it's centered. Not sure I can really explain why, but just think if it was off centre then (for me) it would throw the picture off a little.

He's got that working horizontally - 1/3 Sea ve 2/3 sky.

Personally, I think the composition highlights the static solidity of the lighthouse, whereas everything else; sea, clouds and even light are ever changing.

On iphone, I used two apps.  VSCO and Snapseed.

On a computer, all you need is lightroom. Adobe offer very generous trials.

Bit late, but thanks for the recommendations.

Using Lightroom on my computer now, so I shall dig up some tutorials on how to best utilize it. I've tried VSCO and Snapseed but it seems too "edit-y" for me? I'm most likely overusing the features.

LOKKO, some amazing photos! Really, really stunning. I wish I was as good at photography. :( Will get there one day!

Editing in lightroom takes a little getting used to. All edits are non-destructive, you aren't so much editing the image as creating a profile for viewing it. So there's no "saves" , and you can always reset and start again.

You can save a lot of time by developing a routine of good habits in terms of your library. Where you import files, what keywords you add, just getting the hang of that can make life easier.

Get to know each slider in the develop module. Work your way down from the top. There are some good videos online but not as many as for photoshop.

honest I think the standards are exceptionally high.

A massive wellin to all those that post pictures that they have taken themselves in this thread  :)

These last 2 were special for me. This is the church where the final shootout happened when the Nazis got in. From the movie Anthrapoid.
