Gomez would separate him to two men called Raheem and Sterling if he wanted to, good to see him keeping his calm despite being provoked.
This is the thing.
The incident in the match was a case of Gomez and Sterling tussling for the ball fairly, until Gomez won the ball and then Sterling has a shove and a little bump into the back of Gomez. I think his frustration at losing got the better of him. He picked a confrontation with Gomez, and was made to look a prick when picked up and put back a yard.
He clearly has issues still with his temper tantrums, as was seen in the reaction to losing out to Hendo and his reaction to TTA who nudged him. After he failed to provoke Gomez, he then stamped on VVD, something I think will be filed under unfinished business.
He was wound up emotionally, and after seeing Basil’s tantrums on the line, I think I can see how his anger and sense of self importance and entitlement have been encouraged.
Whether he felt pressure was on him to perform at Anfield from the coaching staff, or simply from his own motivations, he let that pressure get the better of him.
From being their biggest threat he became their biggest embarrassment.
