Not being able to go the game
« on: March 6, 2020, 09:21:04 pm »
So, most I guess in here, as well as me - are what I class as the footsoldier - Home and away, not missing a match. So what are you thoughts if it kicks in and we can't go due to behind closed doors?

I know lads who are fretting like fuck who haven't missed a game in 10, 20, 30 years plus.

Would rather them postpone for however long they have to rather than play behind closed doors

My selfishness agrees, but rationally, we do have to keep moving forward. Cant get me head around it.

People need to stop acting like it's the plague

SARS was contained and controlled eventually with nowhere near this much fuss.

only really so long you can postpone it for, it’ll be closed doors or just as it is. Don’t see it coming to that stage unless we have a huge outbreak in the next week while

Totally get trying to contain the virus but what is the difference between a sports stadium and packed commuter trains or buses, pubs, clubs, shops, work places, schools etc. We could go on and on.

If they make us play behind closed doors can you imagine the hoards hanging around the ground anyway would prevent nothing. They gonna close all pubs shops concerts restaurants etc.... in this world with international travel like catching a bus you can’t contain these things.

Of the completed cases in Italy, 28% of people have died.

So it kind of is quite like the plague.

Don’t know where you’ve got that figure from, but its nothing like that. Its about 5% death rate in Italy

So yeah, its exactly like the plague which killed 25 million.....

wait, what?

4600 cases confirmed in Italy, 197 deaths, so about 4%, not 28%...

you’d think so but there’s Euro playoffs so I’d expect them to go ahead even behind closed doors but the friendlies can get in the bin. Real issue is the euros if this still a thing in June. Thousands traveling between 12 different countries

Yeah definitely, even go as far as to say the champions league might struggle to finish.

yeah agree with this, governments will want to limit cross border travel where they can, european football is common form of this, although I’d say the rest of the continent hasn’t been hit as bad as Italy yet so maybe it’ll pass by fine

It will definitely take the shine off winning it if the ground is empty. been waiting 30 years for this, travelling home and away most weeks to see us winning it live for the first time. (watched it on TV last time as i was only 12.) but would rather them play the games behind closed doors than cancel the season as most other team fans want.

Hopefully wont happen until after the Palace game if City drop points against Utd or Arsenal.

looks like its only a matter of time unfortunately.

I was 15 the last time we won it and had only been going 2 years and only to the odd few games I could afford and get tickets for back then,I never seen us win it live back then only on the tv. Ive been a kop season ticket holder now since 1992 and a away regular since then also. To not be in the stadium when we win will absolutely destroy me Ive lived and breathed  my club all my adult life and that moment when we lift that title and I'm there is something I've dreamt of for 30 years.

This!
It’s all due to the media wanna sell with their sensational headlines and put fear in people! That and the fact people believe everything you head on social media is true  :butt

If we had this same exact flu say 20 even 10 years ago I’m sure we never heard about as many deaths until it was contained.

The sad thing this like ever other virus will mostly (only?) kill already sick people and people with low immune systems.
Personally I think the matches should be played as normal, but the club should make it possible for members to return unwanted ticket until say 36/48h before the match.

Statistics like this will never be remotely correct. I’m sure hundreds have died without being tested but I’m also sure 100,000s will be infected in poorer countries but they can’t afford going to the doctors and therefore no one will ever know they had it.

Think he's still referring to Italy only, rather than worldwide.
Still a bit bizarre to claim 20odd% of people are dying from it, when clearly that's not the case.

Yeah I said Italy as a reference point for what’s possible given the % there hasn’t really changed as more recoveries and deaths happen. The biggest problem with this is going to be selfish, stupid, bellends who aren’t arsed because it doesn’t affect them.

It’s like Climate Change Denial.

I know, I was looking Italy’s stats and still dont know where 28% came from

And climate change will kill, and already has killed far more people than this virus ever will

Dead people divided by recoveries + deaths expressed as a percentage.

197 (deaths) / (197 [deaths] + 523 [people who’ve recovered])

I’ve not looked. But it looks like you’re forgetting to included the hundreds of people who still have it, who have neither died nor recovered.

There is no way Italy’s death rate is 28% mate.

I’ve literally posted you a link. I haven’t included people who haven’t either died or recovered in the same way when I look at the league table I don’t think we’ve played 38 games even though I know we’re going to play them, I don’t know if we’re gonna win, lose of draw.

Ultimately I guess if the Government instruct them to take certain precautions they pretty much have to. But undoubtedly a lot will still travel just to celebrate or welcome a bus or whatever.

Having a global fanbase it's hard to know where people have travelled from and what they might be carrying. I feel like the odds are pretty low generally of a small handful of individuals causing an outbreak between fans/players.

It’s all crazy. Surely if any government was that worried about the spread of the disease then shutting airports/ports (borders) is the only logical step you can take. Quarantining locals whilst borders are open won’t prevent anything...... some of the shite I’ve witnessed over the prem LG years and heartache and seeing rivals prosper, winning the LG in an empty ground and not being there just wouldn’t feel like it’s finally happened. We need city to have a bad week. When international break comes (will be cancelled but that time) I reckon that could be point of behind closed doors games.

Whatever happened to personal choice?  Instead of behind closed cant they just let people make their own decisions.  If its behind closed doors then the match day officials, players and associated game day people will be mixing with each other anyway.  The Stewards I spoke to yesterday were all not arsed about it.  Let people manage their own risk.
Fucking ridiculous

Comical side of it yesterday, players don't shake hands before the match, yet spend 90 minutes grappling with one another and then at the end, all shake hands! Mental.

Its like they've all been down the Green Man.
