I may have it wrong, I thought it was Brian Kidd. My interpretation was that Guardiola just longs to do something utterly bizarre and hope it works on the pitch, so that he can get plaudits for being an unconventional genius.

Instead he keeps doing these counter-intuitive things at crucial moments and blowing their chances of proper, lasting glory.

was just about to write that - I love how the final line tails off too..........as for the historical references, this guy proves how fucking great a comedy writer he is, as well as a brilliantly expressive artist - that Bale panel is gold - such subtlety in the drawing yet he manages to make it look EXACTLY like the character........and I loved the Bosch panel - so much going on - but what's the character in the bottom left all about?!

I just think its one of those mad Bosch creatures.
