The phrase "sleep tight" comes from beds in olden days which were wound ropes on a frame which could be tightened using an ingenious screw device, to achieve a firmer position.

Have we just read the same book?

I don't think so - I have a reliable ITK source.

The Catatumbo Lightning (Spanish Relámpago del Catatumbo) is an atmospheric phenomenon in Venezuela. It occurs strictly in an area located over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo. The frequent, powerful flashes of lightning over this relatively small area are considered by some to be the world's largest single generator of tropospheric ozone. It originates from a mass of storm clouds that create a voltaic arc at more than 5 km of height, during 140 to 160 nights a year, 10 hours per day and up to 280 times per hour. It occurs over and around Lake Maracaibo, typically over a bog area that forms where the Catatumbo River flows into the Venezuelan lake.

Mythbusters says "nuh uh" they covered it in an episode. Not sure who to believe the internet or the televison.

Hmm, mythbusters tried it out for themselves and still lived to tell the tale?. They're obviously lieing.

Habsolutely.

If you had the buttocks and thighs of four good sized bulls and enough head room to jump quite a long way up into the air, plus immaculate supercomputer sense of timing....you could totally do that.

Agree. What if the lift was filled with memory foam and travelling at 99% the speed of light? You wouldn't even need to jump then.

In the time of Henry VIII anyone could say they were a surgeon and perform operations. In an effort to put a stop to this Henry decided to licence surgeons.Obviously because of their experience and skill in handling sharp blades Henry decided that barbers would be licenced to perform surgery.Up till this point barbers were identified by a white pole protruding from their shopfront.Soon though Barbers started hanging bloody bandages over the pole during the day to dry, hence the red and white poles seen outside of barbers shops now.

The Nevada Test Site is a United States Department of Energy reservation located in Nevada, about 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, although with Las Vegas' rate of growth its probably now closer than 65 miles, it was the site of extensive above ground nuclear testing. Formerly known as the Nevada Proving Grounds, the site was established on 11 January 1951, for the testing of nuclear devices. Nuclear testing at the Nevada Test Site began with a one-kiloton bomb dropped on Frenchman Flat on 27 January 1951. Many of the iconic images of the nuclear era come from NTS.

On May 19, 1953, the US detonated the 32-kiloton atomic bomb (nicknamed "Harry") at the Nevada Test Site. The bomb later gained the name "Dirty Harry" because of the tremendous amount of off-site fallout generated by the bomb. Winds carried fallout 135 miles to St. George Utah, where residents reported "an oddly metallic sort of taste in the air."

In 1956 The Conqueror, a film directed by Dick Powell, produced by Howard Hughes, starring John Wayne, featuring Susan Hayward, Agnes Moorehead, and Pedro Armendáriz was filmed near St. George, Utah. The cast and crew spent many weeks on location, Hughes later shipped 60 tons of dirt back to Hollywood to maintain continuity for studio re-shoots. There are publicity photographs of Wayne holding a Geiger counter on set.

Dick Powell died of cancer in January 1963. Pedro Armendáriz was diagnosed with kidney cancer in 1960 and committed suicide in 1963 after he learned it was terminal. Hayward, Wayne, and Moorehead all died of cancer in the mid to late 1970s. Cast member actor John Hoyt died of lung cancer in 1991. The cast and crew totaled 220 people. By 1981, 91 of them had developed some form of cancer and 46 had died of the disease.

The light shows probably arent the only reason Las Vegas glows in the dark.

The Kola Superdeep Borehole is the result of a scientific drilling project of the former USSR. The project attempted to drill as deep as possible into the Earth's crust. Drilling began on 24 May 1970 on the Kola Peninsula, using the Uralmash-4E, and later the Uralmash-15000 series drilling rig. A number of boreholes  were drilled by branching from a central hole. The deepest, SG-3, reached 12,262 metres (40,230 ft) in 1989, and is the deepest hole ever drilled, and the deepest artificial point on the earth.

Around 70,000 years ago the volcano in Lake Toba, Sumatra erupted in one of the largest supereruptions in Earth's history. It put the whole world in a 6-10 year volcanic winter and drastically reduced to human population of the Earth to around 10,000 individuals with only 1,000 breeding pairs. It is thought the world temperature cooled by up to 15 degrees around this time. All 6,800,000,000 human beings alive today are descended from those few survivors.

Angel Falls or Kerepakupai merú (which means "waterfall of the deepest place", in Pemon language, or: Parakupa-vena, which means "the fall from the highest point"; Spanish: Salto Ángel) is a waterfall in Venezuela.
It is the world's highest waterfall, with a height of 979 m (3,212 ft) and a plunge of 807 m (2,648 ft). The waterfall drops over the edge of the Auyantepui mountain in the Canaima National Park (Spanish: Parque Nacional Canaima), a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Gran Sabana region of Bolívar State, Venezuela.
The height of the fall is so great that before getting anywhere near the ground, much of the water is evaporated or carried away as a fine mist by the strong wind. The base of the falls feeds into the Kerep River (alternatively known as the Río Gauya), which flows into the Churun River, a tributary of the Carrao River.
The height figure 3,212 ft (979 m) mostly consists of the main plunge but also includes about 0.25 mi (400 m) of sloped cascades and rapids below the drop and a 100-foot (30 m) high plunge downstream of the talus rapids. While the main plunge is undoubtedly the highest single drop in the world, some feel that including the lower cascades somewhat stretches the criteria for the measurement of waterfalls, although there are no universally recognized standards of waterfall measurement

'Fringe players' in a football team are so named because of ex-Portsmouth striker Alan Biley. Biley played a bit-part in Everton's 1981-82 campaign and earned the title of the 'fringe player' because of his hair. The term is now widely used when referring to lesser-used squad members in football teams throughout the world

Apparently the Denver International Airport has an underground city built under it which will erupt into the "real world" once an New World Order is established. Masonic symbolism can be seen all around DIA and strange murals of Nazi-like tyrants and girls in coffins represent the results of a New World Order.

Almost definitely complete bullshit but I love reading crazy conspiracy theories and this is probably my favourite one along with those who believe reptilian shape shifters rule the world but to be fair, if there are aliens out there then why wouldn't they send super spies to rule over us? Again hilarious sounding but would be awesome and terrifying in equal measure if it was true.

Scared the shit out of me.

Seriously that is terrifying! Who the fuck posts that sort of shit! Monsters, absolute fucking monsters.
