Awesome game from him. I am struggling to think of a team who has better CB options than us at the moment (injuries aside).

Brilliant again.

We have a brilliant core of 4 top class CB's.

I hope he plays against United, Him and VVD are showing to be a pretty good combination and both are brilliant ball players as well which will come in handy against the £ 500 million parked bus this weekend.

We know he has the sharp short passing game and ability to carry the ball forward but his defending is looking much better with more aggression and decisiveness now.

He's ahead of Lovren in the pecking order for me.

He always seems more aware than Lovren and better on the ball.

Was flawless last night

He's stepped up in Joe's absence the last couple of games and put in two very good performances. It's a shame he's so prone to niggling injuries.

When was the last time we had such a strong rotation of center backs?

Reminded me of why everyone thought of him so highly last night when he first broke into the side - he was fantastic.

Has been excellent.  It is no coincidence that with the addition of a world class keeper and a world class CB the other defenders play better.  Both VVD and Alisson are 'leaders' .  This takes the pressure off the others to be 'leaders' and they can just focus on their own games.  Consequently they get better and they start to fulfill their potential.  Genuinely think we have the best keeper, 2 CBs in rotation that there is available.  The way VVD plays too he is not putting his body under massive pressure as he's not into big crunching tackles as his anticipation is so good.  As a unit the back 5 in whatever makeup has been excellent all season and this is evidenced by 12 clean sheets in 19 games.  That's a serious return

He's a brilliant player and was rightly lauded over when he joined with the performances he was putting in.

Seems to have been forgotten a little due to the injury problems he's had on and off and being in and out of the team and not really getting any momentum going for a while.

Also the fact that he sometimes hasn't perhaps been aggressive enough on the ball.

But his recent run and performances are no surprise and goes without saying playing beside VVD does no harm at all for him either!

Blessed with so many good CBs at the moment, all of who can step in these days and put in stellar performances.

He played really well last night.

They are for most teams, its that time of year when they tend to. Thankfully there's nothing majorly bad and we've got guys like Milly and Fab who can cover to a decent level for a few games if needed.
If he's being asked to head the ball too frequently - which isn't exactly his specialty - it could affect his ear and cause an infection. Especially if the ball hits him on the ear directly.

Bad for us, but even worse for him.. been a little out in the cold, but coming back and playing extremely well in some tricky ties.. just bad luck..

With this injury think club may need step in with short term CH when window opens...injury to Degsy ( who is prone ) or God forbid VvD  or suspension leaves us too exposed even if for few weeks

Annoying as he went from being fourth choice CB who we never wanted to see play to showing himself to be more than a capable deputy to Joe Gomez.

Absolute balls.

Whats Caulker up to these days? Who is there that is available on a short term deal that’s of the relevant quality? Better off getting Philips in the team.

This is a bad one for the Reds, coming on top of the injury to Gomez. Matip is a class centre back and has been superb in the last two outings. We'll miss his distribution for sure. Now it's Lovren's turn. Not bad for a fourth choice, although Lukaku enjoyed him last time they met.

The lad who played in pre-season - Nathaniel Phillips.... I guess.

EDIT:

Reckon we'd see Gini, or Fabinho, play there ahead of Phillips though.

Where is this nonsense coming from Wijnaldum playing as CB? Because he played there in one game against Brighton last year?

Phillips is by trade a CB , Wijnaldum certainly doesnt have the height to step in and cover.

A broken collarbone fucking hurts. I'm surprised he's only out for six weeks.

Big loss though with our other defensive injuries mounting. He was solid last night. With Gomez out this was a massive opportunity for him, and one he was seizing. Gutted for the lad really.

I know Phillips is by trade a CB. He may yet prove to be Klopp's 5th choice. But given the fact that he has not yet made his debut and hasn't made much of an appearance on the bench either it is at least possible that Wijnaldum, in the event of an emergency, might be called on to play CB again instead.

Not going to say it's bound to happen, only that I find it surprising you can't see where the argument might be coming from.

We probably have the best CB depth in all of Europe yet now we have real problems if we get another injury or suspension over next 6 weeks with so many games on the horizon. So unfortunate.
