I was buzzing for the West Ham match and it's more of the same for this Sunday  :)
I think we will be calm and get a professional 3-0 win

If that's good enough to get us 3rd place, happy days

But let's go and get the win first and worry about third second even if we finish fourth  :P

It all comes down to this.

A scrappy 1-0 win would do just fine. I couldn't care less about the performance or the score line - as long as we win.

COYR.
I don't mind a 1-0 win, but can we please score in the second minute and dominate the game for the rest 88 mins?

Boro away league form:

Pld 17, W 0, D 6, L 11

Notable away results:

Arsenal 0-0
City 1-1
Utd 1-2
Spurs 0-1
Chelsea 0-3

Last 3 away results:

Hull 2-4
Bournemouth 0-4
Chelsea 0-3

Notable home result:

Liverpool 0-3

I hate streaks. It gives players an incentive to end them.

Those good Boro away results where with their old manager iirc, they have been dross away since, only a 0-0 draw against Swansea and the 3 defeats aforementioned.

Klopp has got European competition down. We are built to play against big teams in tight games. Just one more step left to achieve that goal. I hope we blow them away, but I'll take 3 points any which way them come.

I have this re occuring nightmare scenario, that keeps popping into my mind. We lose out on Sunday and the Mancs win the Europa league. Which sees Chelsea, City, Spurs, Arse, Mancs all with CL football and us losing out.

Now I know I am a Pussay but I cannot bear the thought of that.

It's simple really, we have to win as it will weaken one of our opponents and gives us the opportunity to purchase slightly better players.

These are already on the beach.

I fucking hate this saying that has creeped in.

As if any group of professional footballers collectively don't give a fuck about a game. I can see an argument that you can break their spirit more easily when there's nothing to play for. We saw that against West Ham after the 2 quick 2nd half goals went in. I can see an argument that certain players may not want to risk injury if they know they are moving on in the summer. The counter argument to that is that some players will be trying to impress potential suitors to get a move.

To collectively think a group of professional players would care more about their summer holiday than a game of football is frankly ludicrous. They might be tired and low on confidence due to the season they've had. They'll try hard though.

We should still win easily given our superior quality. Here's hoping we can get over the line. Getting 3rd would be massive bonus though the odds are stacked against it.
I think Jookie might just be the best fisherman on this thread.

Echo the feelings that it is a cup final. Huge game. I hope City slip up on Sunday, but I don't really see it as they seem to have hit a run of form. 3rd would be huge.

Middlesborough will have something to play for, maybe not as a collective team but definitely individuals. This is their last chance to play premier league football and for the likes of Traore and Negredo, a last chance to advocate a move elsewhere.

Fuck them though, if we play with the same determination and drive we'll get the win. Not arsed if we don't replicate the performance against West Ham I just don't want the performance against Southampton where we lacked any sort of mentality that showed we wanted to win!

Klopp will fire them up, if we get an early goal floodgates will open, if we don't I expect it to be very tense and nervous. We as fans need to be patient and as loud as we possibly can be for 90minutes!

I'm with you there, and to be fair that's the case for every team. I'm really fed up hearing every single person on TV or radio saying "they're on the beach" "they have the flip flops on" bla bla bla.
Boro will have the players you mentioned, Everton could have Lakaku and maybe even Barkley playing their last games, Watford probably the managers and a number of players last games. Nothing is easy. I don't buy either when people say Everton will roll over for Arsenal. That's complete nonsense. Maybe some of their fans wont be too upset if they lose, but players and management are pro's and no matter what anyone thinks, they just don't do that

Yet they've done it before. I think they'll try v Arsenal though, we could be 3 up by half time so fixing a defeat from kick off is pointless. But if we are in trouble on 60mins or something it'll be different.

Even if Middlesbrough give it a go we should be beating them comfortably. They've won one of their last 10 games and that was against Sunderland. Before the Sunderland game you have to go back to the middle of December when they beat Swansea. Even when they've tried they've not been good enough.

I'd really like an early goal to settle things down because the tension will start creeping in if we're 0-0 at half time. Especially if Everton do what we all expect and bend over for Arsenal.

I don't think Boro will be "on the beach" already; this is a massive chance for them to come and end their season by shitting all over ours. This fixture would've been one they were looking forward to when they got promotion, it might be the last chance for a few of their players to play at Anfield. They're not going to just show up and let us have a party by spanking them. That being said, if we can score early and get ourselves a couple ahead by half time then I think their heads will drop and we can start to play more relaxed football.

I think we'll win but it won't be easy, I'm going 2-1.

Teams go through the motions all the time, Everton 2014 didn't try against City.

Match report for Boros last home game last weekend says they strolled about looking not in the least bit arsed. If they can't even be bothered at home, they won't be away.

From our point of view, 100% professional approach and murder them from the off.

They have only let in 50 goals, which is the 10th best record in the league. That is just 3 more than Saints and we saw how they made it difficult for us.

Having said that, they have let in 20 goals in their last 10 games (since Karanka left basically), which is worse than Sunderland, Swansea and the same as Hull and only have 1 more clean sheet in that time than Sunderland and Hull, so its not like its skewed by a handful of thrashings.

Good post.

Middlesborough will start the game confidently and will be trying their best. if anything they will be trying hard for one last game to show that they are a good team. It'll be important for us to score first and that's when their doubts may creep in.

Klopp will have us prepared for a tough game and I expect it to be close until we score. We need to concentrate and not give them any hope or chances. If we pass the ball around our superior quality should bring us home. If we can get 2 or 3 up then we can think about more but until then it needs to be a tight game where we don't get over-confident.
