CRICKET World Cup 2019 in England and Wales
« on: May 21, 2019, 08:42:14 pm »
The 2019 Cricket World Cup is nearly upon us and this year it's being held in England and Wales - could this be our year? It's certainly the best chance England have had for some time with a strong and balanced side, which has some quality bowlers with plenty of options and a seemly endless batting line up. As ever with these ICC tournaments, it's a busy schedule but there are some mouthwatering fixtures to look forward to such as India vs Pakistan, England vs Australia and South Africa vs West Indies to name a few.

The standard of one day cricket seems to have rocketed over the past few years and nobody seems to bat an eyelid at a score of 350 - in fact it's almost expected! It will be interesting to see what sort of scores teams make, no doubt new records will be set - can the bowlers rise to the challenge? It promises to be a great event, let's hope for some scorching weather, lot's of run feasts, run out's, 5 for's, 10 for's, sixes, four's, yorkers, bouncers, wides, centuries, catches, sledges, DRS, Bumble and BEER.

:hally

It looks like the day fixtures all start at 10:30 BST and the Day / Night matches (D/N) all start at 13:30 BST. Enjoy

England heavy favorites I think. India and Australia will get the closest.

Really looking forward to my matches.

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand could be an absolute cracker, and South Africa Afghanistan could be a trouncing, but I’ve just an inkling that Afghanistan could pull something off.

Yes that caught my eye too, we all know how good Sri Lanka are in this format but New Zealand can also beat anyone on their day.

I expect South Africa to fall at the semi finals again. England v India in the final.

Having a tribute kit to a tournament we lost is quintessentially English.

Can't wait for this to start though - out of about 6 or 7 games I'm heading to, Oz v SA and NZ v WI could be classics.
If I were a linesman, I would execute defenders who applauded my offsides.

At Lord's? Be good that, went to the test match there V India last year, my first ever visit and it didn't disappoint. Plus we went down on the train, so I managed to get some train number's that I didn't have.  :-X

I’m going to India v NZ at Trent Bridge with my dad - we usually go to a day or two of a test match each year, but decided to do this instead this time. Hoping it’ll be a good game - we’ll be rooting for India, much to the displeasure of my other half who’s a Kiwi!

It’s a bit crap there are no ‘minnows’ but there’s not many bad looking games at paper. I remember 1999 being a bit of a damp squib. My brother was at uni in Leeds and after a night out we went to NZ v Zimbabwe watched by one man and his dog in the drizzle. Was terrible stuff.

Afghanistan have just bowled Pakistan out for 262 in a warm up game. Saw the last few overs, not sure what their batting is like but they could spring the odd surprise.

The final over of Australia v South Africa semi was ridiculous, South Africa needing 9 off the final over to win[205/9 from 49 overs, chasing 213], got 2 boundaries from the first 2 balls, 3rd ball batted straight to an Aussie fielder, 4th ball much the same as the 3rd, but Klusener[Allan Donald was at the non strikers end] crazily decided to go for a run, Donald was ran out for a diamond duck. Australia went through to the final on a higher net run rate from the super sixes.

The final was an anti climax, dreadfully one sided match, Pakistan were bowled out for 132, Australia cruised to the win, reached the total after 20.1 overs of there innings.

Ah the Geoff Allott World Cup, conditions so wet and green Allot became a world beater. I am happy to report he has followed through with his hinted at future physique.

Am going to the NZ v Bangers game. Think the NZ side has the right balance to go far in the comp. Probably another glorious run to the semis.

Just checked out that scorecard. Finished a no result, think even the spare day was rain affected but Zimbabwe batted 50 overs and made about 185. Good times.

Unfortunately both Warner and Smith getting runs. England could do with a plan to get Smith even if its just so that I don't have to watch him. I find him such an annoying batsman to watch as he doesn't seem to play with much grace or elegance, is it just me?  :-\

Even I agree. Was on course to be clear second to Bradman before suspension. Yet didn’t love watching him bat.

They were talking about whether he should play at three or four, surely he's a number three? I was surprise to see Finch open, surely he's too hit or miss in this format?

Probably agree. But they’ve hinted at Usman opening with Finch and then Warner at 3. If you then have Smith 4 I think you’re putting a lot of good batsmen in your top order and it’s tempting. I think Warner could do 3 and Smith most comfortable at 4. Gets Usman and Finch in the only positions they can bat in ODIs too.

Lovely that.  He walked off thinking he was out, saw the replay, turned round and walked back to the middle expecting to be not out, was shocked to be given out, and had to walk off again.

1) Agree completely, there are so many commentators across many sports who just don't have that ability to shut up every now and then!
2) Promising wk/batsman I think

Looked for all the world like a bump ball there but gave Smith the chance of a well deserved ovation/send off. :D

Problem is if we get a lot of officials from all over the world involved they need to know what they are doing, that was a crazy decision and we don't want those once the proper games start.

I thought it was out to be honest, looked like it bounced then hit the bat on the way up - but it look very odd I'll give you that.
