Don't players always play with some sort of injury? Maybe the squad depth means now if they have a minor injury then we dont have to risk them.

Also, Sakho and Lucas have had plenty of rest, they didn't play much for a period at the start of the season.

Not really Lucas hardly played at the start of the season same with Sakho. Every team gets injuries at some point.
Just bad luck look at Arse recently.

Not so sure about the teams with both Balotelli and Sturridge up front - surely he won't go this way when it's been rare enough to get a single striker up there?

I'd imagine that for the youngsters it must be great experience to travel to Turkey with the first team, even if they don't even get on the bench. Part of their footballing education is about how to behave on the road and represent the club after all. Would be nice to see one or two of them get on the pitch in any case!

Also, Beşiktaş away will be a tough test and good experience for our young first teamers as well.

Brannagan and Sinclair both appeared yesterday vs Benfica. (and played 90 minutes) So I doubt they will be in the squad. Can only see Williams getting on the bench, Fulton also played and is a goalie, while Lussey has been injured.

Good experience for them.

Lucas - Over-extension rather than fatigue
Gerrard - Possible, but at the same time, he's older, so more prone to injury
Henderson - Ankle, random event, can't be blamed on fatigue
Sakho - back/hip, probably more postural or maybe even congenital, rather than fatigue. Also plays in a position that requires less rotation
Couthino - Haven't heard of any injury. Probably being rested.

Rodgers and rotation - he's only kept the same 11 once this season. He makes an average of THREE changes per game. So the idea that he's not rotating is false.

Maybe if we had rotated more we wouldn't have made the semi's of the league cup, quarters of the FA Cup and got ourselves back into the hunt for CL qualification. Are we willing to accept the drop in performance that comes with rotation or are we demanding perfection? That the teams rotated regularly and there's no drop off in performance or results. It's not like we keep the same team week in week out anyway.

The amount of football we have to play this season in the 5 comps we've been in was always going to produce injury and suspension that would naturally create rotation and provide opportunity for squad players. I'm not sure we really need to try and be too clever and do it ourselves.

Right now, Rodgers is rotating at the same rate per game as Rafa did in 08-09, and more than Houllier did in 2000-2001, when we played EVERY game possible to play, relying on just 15 players for more than 75% of the games. He's rotating fine. Our sports science crew are at the forefront of their field, and we're still in three competitions. Nothing to worry about.

For anyone who was wondering (like me), Beşiktaş are neck-and-neck with Galatasaray at the top of the league (one point behind with 13 games to go), and play the side that is bottom (by some distance) in the league, at home on Sunday evening. I don't imagine that they would rotate too much given that their upcoming fixture couldn't be any easier.

That's a horribly long list of players out of this leg. I'm more concerned about Sunday's game to be honest, but at least Coutinho and Markovic should be back for that. Hopefully Henderson too, otherwise we're in trouble if we have to go with a Toure/Skrtel/Lovren defence against City.

Doesn't look like we have a whole lot of choice in terms of the back 5 and midfield for this game, though it'd be interesting to see Manquillo finally get a game again, but alas he seems to have disappeared off the face of the planet! Be interesting to see what we do up top though. On the face of it we have Sturridge, Lallana, Sterling and Balotelli available with the likes of Borini and Lambert on the bench. Sterling and Lallana behind Sturridge?

It's been scientifically proven that results suffer as a result of playing games with only 2 days rest. It's not a coincidence that two out of three teams that played last Thursday struggled to get a result on Sunday.

In my opinion, you have to prioritize one over the other.
