Just read about this - I wasn't even born when he played for us but it's always sad to hear about stuff like this. Also, I don't know if this goes in here or maybe the Former LFC Players sub-forum, and I apologize if it doesn't belong here.

RETIRED footballer Michael Robinson has revealed he has metastatic cancer.

The former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland striker says he has advanced melanoma skin cancer.

He made the revelation on a radio show in Spain where he has spent most of his life since retiring from football and made a name for himself as a leading sports journalist.

The 60-year-old said: "I would prefer not to have to fight this battle but regrettably I'm in that battle and I'm determined I'm going to beat it."

The TV host, who appeared in more than 300 official games in England for five different clubs including Liverpool and Manchester City before three seasons in Spain with Osasuna, said he was diagnosed with cancer after discovering a lump in his armpit at the end of the October.

Admitting the specialist who saw him told him: "Michael you've got cancer, a bad one, of the sort that are not curable," he added: "I don't remember the rest of what he told me because I was thinking I was in the middle of a nightmare."

Metastatic cancer is cancer that has spread from where it started to another part of the body.

Carles Francino, presenter of the radio show Michael made his cancer announcement on, said before letting the ex-footballer speak: "My friend, our friend Michael Robinson has cancer.

"I've said it now. Now it's the turn of Michael who gave me permission to tell you more."

Real shitty news. There was always an affectionate feel for Robbo with his time with us and it was surprising and great news to hear how well he had settled in Spain and become such a celebrity in the sporting media circles of Spain.

As mentioned, be strong Robbo and strength to all with Cancer.

No.. really sad news. I remember him well. He wasn't with us for long and as I recall was a real impact sub for either Rushy and Dalglish. Popped up with some big goals. I wish him and his family well and send loads of love.

We lost our chief bridesmaid a few years ago aged 36 to the same cancer It spreads fast and very aggressive. Liked him as a player and never complained about being back up to rushie and the king.Hope him and his family can get in as much time together before that shitty disease does its worst. Ynwa

Unusual footballing man, to have gone and create a media career in Spain, (obviously speaking spanish), to make a life there. Shows adventure, spirit, courage and creativity. Sad news to hear about Micheal Robinson passing away aged only 61 , played for the reds after signing from Brighton then went onto a good career in spain as a pundit .
