My first Liverpool goaly as a kid...when in goal you where either Banks or Tommy....cos he played for Liverpool he was clearly up there with Banks in our eyes....bloody good goal keeper and a stalwart of the great '60's era.

Shanks, Bob and the rest  of the boot room  built the foundations of the LFC we have today....Tommy and those like him where the pillars of that foundation.

Even if your too young to appreciate him ,salute the man and the team and club he helped build.

" ..For these are men, Bill Shanklys best..."

Edit just watched that lovely BBC clip...brought tears to my eyes....I wish the heroes of my youth would stop bloody dying!!

Lovely brief tribute there on LFCTV and hope they have some more on tonight as sad to see one of the 65 class pass away. Too young to remember him but just listening to his voice saying he loved it at Liverpool brought a tear to the eye. Hope Shanks is still not looking for him and the FA Cup once he gets past the pearly gates. RIP Sir.

RIP Tommy and thanks.
Under rated yes, but he had his style that brought something slightly different and even something new to a division that contained Gordon Banks, Peter Bonetti, Pat Jennings and the rest- all very good goalkeepers indeed. Tommy was in good company.
I still wonder how he got to some of those shots on goal but he did. He was great for LFC and that's all that matters.

RIP Tommy, as others have said my first sight of LFC and he was in goal for many years as well. Then our kid got a job in Warrington and he got to work with him. No big head just a working class man doing an honest days work. First Liverpool Goalie to pick up the FA cup. thanks for everything Tommy.

1977 was the first game I remember so after Tommy's time but I do remember my Dad telling me about Tommy Lawrence.

Sad day for the club but more so for his family losing someone who seemed like a really nice down to earth chap!

Loved seeing the BBC interview with him again

Very sad, the Flying Pig was unique. Always rolled his sleeves up and one of the first to play sweeper/keeper. More effective than he looked.

He was in goal when I watched my first Liverpool game. I know a lot have said that their heroes have gone but actually I think that apart from Emlyn Hughes and Geoff Strong the rest of Shanks side of the late 60s are still with us.

True, both also sadly gone. I started watching the Reds in 68 and never actually saw either of these two play "live".

I'm old enough to remember the old Second Division days - Bert Slater, Jim Furnell and Tommy.  Tommy, as said on here was known as "the Flying Pig" but he was also known affectionately as "Fatty" Lawrence (not seen anyone refer to this!).  Yes, good keeper, part of the Scottish spine of Lawrence, Yeates and St John.........ah nostalgia ain't wot it used t'be!

He played in the very first match I ever went to in 1963. He was a much better keeper than he was ever given credit for and was a key player in Shankly's renaissance of the club. Seemed like a really nice, humble man too. He'll be remembered long after any of the bit part players.
My first game was in 63 as well - third home match against West Ham - we got beat 2-1!!

Tommy was in goal and yes, he was a very good keeper. The number of times he dashed out and thru himself at the feet of an attacker and took the ball. Completely fearless !!

After the game it was reported in the Echo that Shankly had assured the board that we would win a home match that season - this was our third and we'd  lost the first two as well !!

We went on to win the league !!

Great, great memories.

RIP Tommy - I'll always remember you with great fondness.

I often watch that doc on lfctv about the 65 cup win. One of the things that struck me is the camaraderie these lads still have around one another and while they may be aging, their eyes still light up when they recall past games and glories.

Tommy was a real gentleman and still had that glint in his eye, a really lovely bloke. Sad to hear of his passing, but like all our legends, he will never be forgotten.
