Quite a few selections today from both Ascot & Dundalk:

Ascot 2:30 Llandinabo Lad 1pt win 10/3 (Bet365) & Shantou Express 2pt win 13/2 (Bet365)

Both have the best speed figures in this race comfortably on my figures. Obvious worry is No Ordinary Joe turns out to be a superstar for Nicky who does like to aim one at this race but I'd rather go with the experience here.

Dundalk:

5:00 Never Back Down 2pt win 8/1 Various & Dark Magic 2pt win 10/1 various

NBD had been going close in November without winning running some respectable speed figures. Looks to have been freshened up slightly & this looks like a nice opportunity to win. Dark Magic is drawn nicely with Keane back on board, been posting some nice figures and running well from wide draws and trips recently.

5:30 Mr Ormsby 2pt win 10/1 various

Been off since Feb but looks like the winner all over on form for me, some really big figures here at Dundalk and the pace of the race looks to suit.

6:00 Faakhirah 2pt win 9/1 (Bet365)

Has had a v wide trip last twice & ran a huge race the time before with a more adequate trip. Should go close.

Interesting. Never sure if it’s a good thing when these decent horses get sold, often means that while it’s a top horse the owners have doubts whether he can truly go to the very top, otherwise surely you’d keep it (unless you really need the money)

See your point but I don’t think it’s a negative this time. Robcour just want to win and I think the offer would’ve been too good to turn down.

You’re probably right. Don’t think I’d sell a Champion Hurdle horse if I thought I had one though

Disappointed Champ not ready to run over Christmas, running out of time to get in more than a run or two before the gold cup. Turning into another Presenting Percy situation

Anyone else watching Mickey Quinn on Get In? Brilliant, love him.

Asked about footballers who are like talented racehorses that don’t see their races through Mick mentioned Pogba😝. He said if Pogba were a racehorse, he’d need blinkers, cheek pieces and a grackle noseband, and Timeform would give him the infamous squiggle😂

Was hoping Paisley Park might get backed causing Thyme Hill to maybe reach 5/2 or bigger but doesn’t look like it’s going to happen so will just watch today. Going to be gruelling in that ground a little worried it could be a very hard race that takes a while to get over for those involved

Brilliant race that, great from Paisley Park. Still happy with Thyme Hill, better ground at Cheltenham and I’m not sure PP will be able to run him down. At least that’s my hope. Two very good horses

Agree Gerry - hope you filled your boots. Cracking race. I made a modest profit with Roksana,  it had the footy on too - some quite good goals🤗

Santini added to the King George. Henderson doesn’t think the track will suit but it definitely adds to the race overall

Don’t think Santini has any chance over the King George trip unless it is almost unraceable. He’s not slow but I don’t think he has anything like the pace to get to Cyrname or Clan Des Obeaux. Surprised Henderson is running but then I guess there isn’t many races for these Gold Cup types. Got to run them when you can.

No there’s very few races for them and it seems Henderson is looking to go over hurdles with Champ in January, probably means he’ll have no more than one run over fences ahead of the gold cup, which is a bit off putting

Very much so. His jumping is... not spectacular so you'd hope he'd get practice in. I wouldn't back him unless he puts in a special round before Cheltenham. A Native River won't win but if he's in the race he'll go a million and put him under pressure.

He’s been to Henrietta Knight schooling. I can’t get past the way he finished the RSA and how the extra 2 and a bit furlongs would be right up his street but as you say I’d like see a pretty faultless round of jumping prior to that

A couple for me today.

The Big Breakaway 1.50 Kempton. Happy to forgive his last run as over a trip too short. Up against a couple of decent rivals today but 11/4 seems a fair price.

Darver Star 2.15 Leopardstown. Another who needs to bounce back. Attracted by the price, but he has to prove last time all wrong as he was well beaten by Felix Desjy.

Very tempted to lay Asterion Forlonge. Looks a very good race at Limerick and although going right handed, he was still jumping to the right at punchestown, and you could give every horse in the race a chance. Probably won’t unless he goes odds on, but looks vulnerable to me.

Fascinating King George and Great day of racing, be lucky.

Looking forward to Kempton, hope CDO can pull it off, though won't be risking too much at the price.

Over at Wincanton, Venetia Williams has 4 with good  claims, will do a few bets later, probably ew Lucky15 or some such for a bit of interest.

I've been studying the form for the first time in moons and have done a few EW trebles and trixies from todays racing , Mondays and Aintree and Cheltenham this Spring. I've got twelve cans of guiness on me table and going to place more bets today. What can possibly go wrong ?

I did the big breakaway too, thought he might have won if he didn’t clatter the last, but didn’t jump well enough

Iam a bit of a novice when it comes to the horses but me Da always says back them before the Christmas meetings and if they run well their odds will shorten for the Spring meetings.

Agree. I actually backed him e/w. But he owes me nowt, I’ve backed him since way back at Ffos Las in 2018, when he won @3/1 and I’d lumped on.

The King George is a fascinating race, Nicholls has 4 runners, but I’m unconvinced his yard is in top form. I think Saint Calvados will go well at a big price, and Santini is at a tempting price from an in-form yard.

Terrible day’s punting and a day of racing that won’t last long in my memory. Huge priced winners galore that you couldn’t have picked if you’d studied for 10 years and a couple of so called hotpots not turning up making it tough to assess form. Frodon shouldn’t be beating that lot, sorry but it’s not within 7 pound of Clan Des Obeaux’s best stuff at Kempton.

Should have known when the first winner of the day was 125/1. I think the only fav that won today and really enhanced his reputation in terms of Cheltenham was Zanahiyr. He looked very smart.
